State Approval Process & Curriculum Development Maritime Industry Academy High School (MIA B) developed in 2014 in cooperation with: Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS) Maritime Industries Academy Advisory Board & Foundation Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Division of Career and College Readiness, Approved Career Cluster Name - Transportation Technologies LSS Title - Seagoing Pathway Pathway Title - Seagoing CIP Code - 49.0309 Using the STCW – 2010 competency guidelines for Able Seafarer – Deck and Qualified Member of an Engineering Watch as our pathway foundations, we preparing our students for seagoing positions aboard both domestic and internationally registered ocean-going merchant vessels. They receive “real-world” stackable and professional credentials for the Intermodal Transportation and Distribution Logistics, as well as the Seagoing Maritime industries upon graduation and pathway completion.

State Approval Process & Curriculum Development Baltimore’s Four Semester Career Pathway with mandatory Seagoing Expeditions Sophomore Intro to Intermodal Transportation & Distribution Logistics (ITDL) Summer Seagoing Expedition 21 Days Junior Seagoing Deck Operations Seagoing Engineering Operations Summer Seagoing Expeditions 21 Days Senior Seagoing Steward Operations The Seagoing Expeditions are a mandatory part of the Seagoing Pathway. Student mariners are required to participate in work based learning as part of each SEAGOING course - Deck, Engine, and Steward Operations. The pathway provides opportunities to “work aboard a ship” both at sea and in-port; to reinforce their four semesters of pathway education and training. Student mariners MUST SPEND A MINIMUM OF TWENTY (20) DAYS conducting Instructor approved “At Sea or Ashore expeditions” throughout the three school-year program duration to be considers a program completer

State Approval Process & Curriculum Development Industry “Stackable” Credentials SafeServ® Certification (Food Service Industry) TWIC – Transportation Workers Identification Credential (Maritime, Airline, Railroad, Ground Trans. Industries) MMC – Merchant Marine Credential (Maritime Shipboard Industries) STCW – Basic Training Certification (International Merchant Mariner) Students can spend anywhere from 25 to 44 days collectively aboard a vessel throughout their high school experience depending on availability and operational schedule of the sponsoring company. Expeditions can be scheduled during non-school hours, winter, spring and summer recess as follows: Summer 14-28 days Winter 5-7 days Spring 5-7 days Weekends 1-2 days The student mariners perform the “real-world -onboard ship” duties of a Cadet-Wiper, Cadet-Steward, and Cadet-Ordinary Seaman.
