Research Question Research problem 1: In this Ted Talk: you will hear a bunch of stats. But where do all these numbers come from? Please work in groups of 2-3 students. You have 15 minutes to find their source. What type of database you need What resources you need

Preliminary meta-research When you research a matter totally unknown to you, then starting could be tricky. Find an expert! Always a good idea, but It may be hard to find an expert because you do not know what type of expertise you need Luckily you are taking this workshop and you will learn that whenever you need to research mergers, these are the best databases: Strategize: If you want primary sources, What type? What do you expect to find? Where would you go for them? Secondary sources? (same question)

General strategies for finding data 1. Search the literature for references to data sources used for similar research 2. Think about who would be most likely to have created/collected the data.  (Also important: why would they collect the data?) 3. Would the data be freely available or could it be proprietary? 4. Does it exist in an easily manipulated format or is it only available in print sources?
