Introduction Visited S-3 rig , LOC – NLJ on 09/02/2015 Observed and identified Area lighting system in the rig along with other assignments. The drilling operation is a 24 hours continuous process: “After spudding in, till the final depth is reached in a particular location”. There are different equipments located in different areas within the well site. Sufficient illumination level is required for safe working during the drilling operation.
Illumination level As per data obtained from S-7 RIG,LOC: HXI-H Pump House Shed : 40 lux Diesel tank area transfer Pump : 10 lux Derrick floor : 90 lux Pipe rack : 30 lux Staircase : 20 lux Monkey board : 50 lux PCR ACPCR : 149 lux DCPCR : 139 lUX Compressor shed : 60 lux Chemical loading area : 70 lux Mud tank & Mud return channel area : 71 lux Sub-structure : 115 lux Engine rooms : 20 lux
area lighting circuits Lighting circuits in a Drilling rig are classified into two categories – a) Hazardous Area lighting b) Safe Area lighting The hazardous area lighting circuit is designed to meet the standard as per CEA(safety and electric supply) Regulations, 2010. The different working areas are – a) Derrick floor, b) Mast, c) Cellar, Shale shaker, d) Desander, e) Desilter, f) Mud tank, f) Mud pump etc. fall within a radius of 30 mtrs from cellar pit. The safe Area lighting includes Bunk houses, crew hut and the areas fall beyond the radius of 30 mtrs from the cellar pit.
Hazardous Area Lighting system The complete lighting system works on 230 VAC, Ph to Ph, 50Hz. The 230VAC Ph- Ph, 50Hz is used as per CEA Regulation Ch-IX, Regulation 102, II, b. Lighting circuit consists of 20 no. of circuits.
