SUMMARIZING In order to SUMMARIZE a story properly… We should move all the way from the BEGINNING to the END of the story/chapter include the MAIN CHARACTER(s) identify the CONFLICT, and tell how it is RESOLVED ...in about 5 sentences!

SWBS Chart SOMEBODY WANTED BUT SO

Elaborating on our Summary Somebody-Wanted-But-So can create a one sentence summary of the story. Now we will create a four-five sentence summary. One Sentence per box!

Why is this summary better? SOMEBODY WANTED BUT SO Simba Was supposed to be king of Pride Rock Scar killed Mufasa and took over instead Simba fought him and took his rightful place as king

Full Summary SOMEBODY WANTED BUT SO Simba is Mufasa’s son, who is anointed heir to the throne of Pride Rock at his birth. He wants to live up to his father’s expectations and be as good and noble a king as his father. Scar wants to be king, so he kills Mufasa and makes Simba think that it’s his fault. Simba feels guilty and runs away. Simba finally realizes that he must save Pride Rock and returns home. He discovers the truth about his dad, fights Scar, and becomes king.
