What is 3D–XL? 3D-XL is a converter box that converts 3D contents into a format displayable on 3D Ready DLP projectors

Why users need 3D–XL. HDMI 1 Why users need 3D–XL? HDMI 1.4a was released in March 2010 and other side by side 3D games and 3D cameras were released in late 2010. There is no way for hundreds of thousands of 3D Ready projectors manufactured on or before 2010 to be compatible with such new 3D standards. Since the standard is new and comprises of multiple mandatory formats the decoding solution is relatively expensive – it make sense to separate the 3D decoder and projector for entry level products so that users who don’t need 3D don’t have to pay extra

3D contents supported by 3D-XL 3D-XL supports most 3D contents intended for consumers – Blu-ray 3D, 3D broadcast from satellite or cable, 3D games Turn on the “3D Mode” (DLP-Link) in projector OSD If necessary, use projector’s 3D Sync-Invert to optimize your 3D experience. Turn on the 3D glasses and put them on. Xbox 360 3D games at 720p or 1080p are output using HDMI 1.3 SBS. Need to be manually enabled by pressing the SBS button on the 3D XL box

(iii)1080i side by side broadcast Other 3D content supported by 3D-XL 3D DV and 3D DC will use HDMI1.4a or 1.3 1080i or 720p side by side(SBS) YouTube 3D content is also SBS but 3D quality varies a lot (iii)1080i side by side broadcast

3D-XL Main Applications 1.3D-XL connecting to Optoma 3D-Ready DLP to providing HDMI 1.4a and SBS decoding 720p 120HZ 2. Low cost for dual 1080p projectors 3D solution using two 3D-XLs One projector add a polarize V glass and other add polarize V glass then user use more economical polarized glasses to enjoy 3D content using a screen the preserves light polarization properties 1080p L HDMI splitter 1080p R

Interface of 3D-XL Front panel LED indicators: Include HDMI 1, HDMI 2, SBS MODE and Power LEDs. Source button: Allow manual selection of source. SBS MODE button: Allow manual selection of SBS 3D format conversion. Power button (STANBY/ON): Control the system power.

Interface of 3D-XL I/O ( Back Panel) DC power input Output mode (3D 720p / 1080p L / 1080p R) HDMI OUT (TO PROJECTOR) (HDMI 1.3) RS232 SERVICE (USB) IR EMITTER (OUT) VESA 3D compatible HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 inputs (HDMI 1.4a)

Adaptor Side( Box side) 3D-XL Data sheet Specifications Adaptor Side( Box side) Resolution output 3D timing Supporting output will be 720p@120hz when out mode is 3D 720P@120hz Supporting output will be  1080p@60hz when outmode is Dual 1080p L/R 2D Timing Support bypass 2D timing( progressive) 3D Timing HDMI 1.4A 1280 X 720P @ 50/60Hz Top - and – Bottom 1280 X 720P @ 50/60Hz Frame packing 1920 X 1080i @50/60 Hz Side- by-Side (Half) 1920 X 1080P @24 Hz Frame packing HDMI1.3 (SBS Mode On) 1920 X 1080i, 720p, 1080p 50/60 Hz Side-by-Side (Half) Power Supply Auto-ranging: 100V ~ 240V ± 10%, 50-60Hz Power Consumption < 6W (Normal operation mode w/o IR emitter) <11 W (with IR emitter in future ) Standby mode < 1.0W : Standby for power button and RS232 command only Dimensions 280 mmX190 mmX 30mm Net Weight 860g (w/o adapter); 1070g(with adapter) Optoma reserve the right to change the terms of this specification or to modify any features of preliminary datasheet

Verifying DLPLink synchronization Currently all 3D Ready projectors face one problem – the 120Hz HDMI 1.3 frame progressive signal the projector can receive contains no provision to inform the projector which frame is the left frame and which frame is the right frame There is 50% chance the left and right frame were inverted creating a problem known as pseudoscopic effect Optoma has a patent pending method implemented in 3D-XL to solve this problem - the HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 LED is blinking ON during left frame and OFF during right frame If the 3D-XL HDMI LED view through the DLPLink glass is only visible by the left eye then the synchronization is correct – left eye is seeing the left frame and right eye is seeing the right frame correctly If the 3D-XL HDMI LED view through the DLPLink glass is only visible by the right eye then the synchronization is incorrect – left eye is seeing the right frame and right eye is seeing the left frame To correct this problem, toggle the setting 3D Sync. Invert located under Display OSD – if Off, set it to On, If On set it to Off

3D-XL Firmware Upgrade Copy the firmware file ??????.bin to root directory of USB Jump Drive Insert the Jump Drive into Service Port and then connect power

3D-XL Firmware Upgrade Press the power button, the HDMI 1 and 2 indicator will flash simultaneous for up 40 seconds indicating firmware upgrading is in process Power off the 3D-XL and then remove the USB Jump Drive after the LED stopped blinking

3D Glass Supported 3D Glass ZD101 Planned RF Glass Technology DLPLink Pseudoscopic Effect error rate 50% 0% Operating range 10-20 feet depending on screen and projector brightness 150 feet, 30 feet with no line of sight Suspectability to interference from nearby projector Yes if other DLPLink or PointBlank 2.0 or less projector were in close proximity Can using pairing to eliminate any RF interference Battery 2 x CR2032 about 150 hours rechargeable 60 hours per charge Angular position from screen depends on screen and distance <30 degrees if more than 10 seconds unlimited Contrast ratio Reduced especially when displaying 2D content Not affected

3D Glass DLPLink glass works with any DLPLink projector with limitations mentioned RF glass works with product equipped with a VESA 3D port 3D XL Box has a VESA 3D port (labeled as IR Emitter) and an USB port (labeled as Service) suitable for charging RF 3D glass. Can provide RF glass capability and advantages to any DLPLink projector or display capable of displaying 720p 120Hz HDMI signal To give better contrast DLPLink mode should be off during RF glass operation
