Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER Feb 1 – March 31, 2017 PROGRAM COUNSELLING Feb 2 – March 20, 2017 Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

Cycle of the school year Feb: info sessions and Intent to Register September: start classes June-July: register for Fall/Winter courses using info from Feb April: final exams May: marks decide eligibility for degree requested Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

Intent to Register (ITR) is the process by which you tell us your academic plans for 2016-17 Program counselling gives you vital information that will allow you to make informed program choices through ITR Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

During Program Counselling, look up Intent to Register information and the schedules for ADO/Departmental information sessions on the King’s/ADO website: www.kings.uwo.ca/ITR/ Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

To do your ITR, attend these information sessions: the Academic Dean’s Office session: general information on how to build your degree and summer school the departments: subject-specific information (how do you know if a subject is for you?) Make informed decisions and do it right! Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

The Academic Dean’s Office presentation will cover How to complete your Intent to Register Degree types and module combinations Breadth requirements Progression requirements Residency requirements Summer school ATTEND A FULL 40-minute SESSION! Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

Did you know that King’s runs these information sessions? the School of Social Work: (what are the BSW admission requirements?) professional schools (Education, Law, etc.: how should you prepare for future graduate programs?) Attend them! Get the necessary info!

Seize the opportunity to meet these mentors! And DID YOU KNOW that you could get more information and academic input by meeting your faculty during their office hours? Seize the opportunity to meet these mentors! Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

Submitting your ITR online Log in to student.uwo.ca Click on Complete my Intent to Register Submitting by March 31st will allow access to Fall/Winter 2017 courses You will NOT choose your courses now Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

What if I miss the ITR deadline (March 31st)? You will lose priority for course selection in the summer If you are late, you must complete a paper form at the Academic Dean’s Office and your access to the registration system will be delayed. Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

You can’t submit an ITR online if you are a special student (you already have a degree) in a Certificate program without a degree program planning to be “undeclared” (i.e., to not be in a module like a Major). This is a situation to avoid if possible. in a concurrent degree program (i.e., in a professional degree and a B.A. undergrad degree at the same time) a re-registrant (you have voluntarily taken the last year/s off) seeking admission to the Bachelor of Social Work Honors program (see next slide). Are you in one of the above situations? We can answer your questions at the Academic Dean’s Office (DL 104). Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

Students applying for admission to the BSW Honors program cannot pick "Social Work" on their ITR. Submit an online ITR for your alternate/backup degree/module combination. If you’re admitted to the BSW program, your registration will be changed for you.  If you are in the BSW program (Year III progressing to Year IV and Extended Study students) you must complete an online ITR by March 31, 2016. Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

ITR allows you to select your status: full-time or part-time faculty (e.g., ‘King’s’) degree type (see definition below) module(s) (see definition below) a second choice [of degree type/module(s)] Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

Definitions that will help you fill out your ITR What is a degree type? There are 3 types of degrees: Honors Bachelor (20.0 credits) 4-year Bachelor (20.0 credits) 3-year Bachelor (15.0 credits) Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

What is a module? A set of courses specified by an academic department There are FOUR types of modules: Honors Specialization (9.0 – 10.0 credits) Major (6.0 – 7.0 credits) Specialization (9.0 credits) Minor (4.0 – 5.0 credits) Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

E = Essential module(s) for degree A = Additional module(s) — optional Approved Module Combinations for Degrees E = Essential module(s) for degree A = Additional module(s) — optional Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

What courses do I need to complete a degree? Your degree will consist of: First-year courses (minimum of 5.0) An ESSENTIAL module Additional module/s (optional) Electives Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

French Language and Lit. Minor 20 credit B.A. Year 1 credits (5.0) Module/s E.g.: World Religions Major French Language and Lit. Minor Electives Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

I’m interested in Summer School – what should I do? Go to the Summer Calendar online, and read it thoroughly. The 2017 Summer Calendar will soon be available at www.westerncalendar.uwo.ca Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

Summer School registration Activate yourself for Summer School by going to your Student Centre and clicking on Summer Activation; it will take 72 hours before you can register for courses Register for courses online (registration for the first session usually begins in the first week of March) Pay for your courses on time! Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

Summer school advisory Summer courses are condensed and are consequently extremely challenging! Allow for 2-3 hours of reading time for each hour of class time. You will need to manage your time skilfully. It may be harder than you think to combine a summer course with a heavy work schedule. Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

Can I take courses away from King’s during the Summer? Yes, by applying for a Letter of Permission (LOP); information is available here; forms are available after you meet an academic counsellor at the ADO If you still have questions, the academic counsellors will be available during Reading Week for Summer School Counselling. Academic Dean’s Office INTENT TO REGISTER and PROGRAM COUNSELLING

Is there anything else I should know? Make sure you have activated your Western e-mail account – this is how you will receive important information from Enrolment Services at King’s, and updates about summer registration.
