Hebrews 13:20-21 (NKJV) 20 Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Wear It Out! Hebrews 13:20-21

Wear It Out Have you ever worn something out before? Maybe a favorite article of clothing? Sometimes kids will wear out a “blanky” or teddy bear Some people wear out their welcome One might wear out carpet or a favorite spot to walk or stand

Wear It Out When we wear something out it comes from using it a great deal If something is not worn out, then we probably aren’t using it that much There are some things on this physical body that we need to wear out, if we haven’t already done so

Wear It Out Why? The physical body is what we use in our service to God We are to use our physical bodies to glorify God (I Cor. 6:19-20) Paul said he used his body, or earthen vessel, to carry the gospel (II Cor. 4:7)

Wear It Out Paul wore his body out in service to God (Gal. 4:13; II Cor. 11:23-30) Paul took pleasure in wearing out his physical body for the work of the Lord (II Cor. 12:10) Whatever we do in this life is a small price to pay for the life hereafter (II Cor. 4:17) What can we wear out in 2017 in His service?

Wear Out Our Eyes God has blessed us in a wonderful way with eyes to behold His creation in this world God also wants us to use our eyes and wear them out in His service Ps. 119:82 – “My eyes fail from searching Your word” Are we searching the word that much?

Wear Out Our Eyes Jer. 29:13 – “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart” Ps. 119:123 – “My eyes fail from seeking Your salvation and Your righteous word” We need to wear our eyes out in His word We need to wear our eyes out in seeking the lost (Lk. 19:10; Lk. 15)

Wear Out Our Ears Too many times people seek to wear out their mouths with talking Often times what we need to do is instead listen Js. 1:19 – “…let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak…” Prov. 18:7; 29:11

Wear Out Our Ears The more we talk, the more we tend to get ourselves in trouble at times Maybe we would do well in the future to try and use our ears more than we use our mouths Ecc. 5:3 – “…a fool’s voice is known by his many words”

Wear Out Our Hands Sometimes you meet those with very rough and calloused hands When you meet those people you know that they work hard with their hands What are your hands like in a spiritual sense? Are they rough and calloused due to working hard in God’s kingdom?

Wear Out Our Hands Ecc. 9:10 – “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might…” Solomon goes on to tell us why that’s so important… John 9:4 – “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work”

Wear Out Our Hands We need to be steadfast, immovable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord (I Cor. 15:58) We are to be zealous for good works (Titus 2:14) It’s what we were created in Christ Jesus for (Eph. 2:10)

Wear Out Our Knees Another part of this body we need to wear out in service to God is our knees So many greats in the Bible have fallen to their knees in offering prayers and supplications to the Lord Solomon got on his knees to offer up prayers to God (I Ki. 8:54; II Chron. 6:13)

Wear Out Our Knees Ezra did it in Ezra 9:5 It was Daniel’s custom to do this (Dan. 6:10) Paul knelt in prayer (Acts 20:36; Eph. 3:14) Peter did the same (Acts 9:40) Even Christ, our example, knelt in prayer before God (Lk. 22:41)

Wear Out Our Knees I Thess. 5:17 – “Pray without ceasing” Jesus said to pray always (Lk. 18:1; 21:36) Rom. 12:12 – “continuing steadfastly in prayer” Eph. 6:18 – “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…”

Wear Out Our Feet We need to wear out our feet in carrying the gospel to the lost Rom. 10:15 – “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things” Eph. 6:15 – “and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace”

Wear Out Our Feet Think about all the places that the feet of Jesus went in carrying the gospel Think of men like Paul and all the territory they covered in preaching His word Think of the feet of the father in Luke 15, how he ran to meet his son that had come back home
