Igneous Rocks Eric Angat Teacher

How do I identify an igneous rock? Essential Question How do I identify an igneous rock?

Instructions Answer the clarifying questions individually (20 minutes). When done in answering all 15 questions, your teacher will tell you to group yourselves together and then distribute the bags of igneous rocks. 2. Read and follow the instructions. Talking too much deprives you and others of needed learning so you need to be quiet and focus on the task at hand. You will receive a consequence such as detention or ISS if you do not follow instructions. 3. Observe each rock and record your observations on your activity papers.

2. How do Igneous rocks form? Extrusive rocks- example is basalt. Intrusive rocks- example is granite.

3. What are the types of Igneous Rocks http://2ref.info/?w=Bing+Images+www.bing.com%3A80%2Fimages%2Fsearch

Cooled lava forms basalt igneous rocks Moai Statues (Easter Island) Basalt, trachyte, and scoria Basalt (extrusive rock) and granite (intrusive rock) are two of the most common igneous rock types on the Earth, and cover most of the igneous deposits on the planet. Usually, the rocks in deep ocean floors are known to be basaltic in nature, while the rocks in the continental mass are granitic in nature. Owing to their interlocked crystals, igneous rocks boast of a strong and stable structure, which, in turn, makes them highly popular in the world of architecture. Each igneous rock variety has uses of its own; some are used for kitchen counters, some for decorative purpose, and some for interior designing and jewelry making. Igneous rocks have been used in architectural construction for several centuries. In fact, some of the most famous monuments in the world have been built using these rocks and therefore, it would be a bit harsh on our part to ignore these monuments when compiling interesting facts about this rock type.
