Tips for packing china Professional tips to help your clients safely pack their china for a move Use sturdy, medium sized cartons with 3-4 inches of crumpled packing paper on the bottom for cushion. Individually wrap plates using 1-2 layers of newspaper, then bundle in stacks no greater than four. Never lay plates flat in a carton as they are more likely to break. Always place them vertically. Plates form the bottom layer of the carton, followed by bowls, then cups and other light fragile items. Separate each layer with newspaper and fill empty spaces with a cushion of newspaper.
