School of Education Strategic Plan Mission Cultivate a new generation of educators who contribute to a transformational shift in education that ensures all students are adequately prepared to lead successful and productive lives

A Historic Opportunity School of Education Strategic Plan A Historic Opportunity Education is a defining issue of our time, crucial to everything from career opportunity and social mobility to effective democratic citizenship. The role of teachers and administrators has become critically important, particularly in culturally diverse Orange County. UCI is poised to become a top 10 School of Education by 2022, coinciding with the 10-year anniversary of the school’s founding.

School of Education Strategic Plan Why UCI? The School of Education has recruited internationally recognized researchers in educational science and has developed extraordinary capacity to make a difference n this area. UCI has the most diverse student population of any top ranked research university The School is deeply committed to expanding educational equity and opportunity (e.g., 75% of CalTeach Science and Math graduates choose to teach in a high-needs schools).

Why a Focus on Improvement? Systemic approach to improvement Broad and diverse network of stakeholders Deep analysis of problems and their causes Development of innovative solutions and improvement capacity Robust testing and data analysis Applied Research Center for longitudinal data studies

Building a System of Teacher Preparation Requires field sites that provide opportunities for PSTs to: Develop a vision of ambitious and responsive teaching in context Enact ambitious and responsive teaching practices for supporting diverse student populations Leverage community-based resources and knowledge to support student learning
