Packaging What is packaging?

Packaging: is all the activities of designing and producing the container for a product. Most physical products have to be packaged and labeled. Example about world famous packages: Fruit-Shaped Jam Bottles:

5Ps PACKAGING: many marketers have called packaging a fifth P. Price Product Place Promotion PACKAGING: many marketers have called packaging a fifth P.

Levels of Packages Primary Package: Primary packaging is the material that first envelops the product and holds it. This usually is the smallest unit of distribution or use and is the package which is in direct contact with the contents. Secondary packaging is outside the primary packaging, perhaps used to group primary packages together. Shipping packaging is used for bulk handling, warehouse storage and transport shipping. The most common form is a palletized unit load that packs tightly into containers.

Factors which have contributed to the growing use of packaging as a marketing tool: Self-Service: Providing information and attracting customers. Consumer affluence: Consumers’ willingness to pay more It means that consumers are willing to pay a little more for the convenience, appearance, dependability, and prestige of better packages. Company and brand image. Innovation opportunity: It can bring large bring large benefits to consumers and profits to producers. Companies are incorporating unique materials and features such as resalable spouts and openings. For example: Fragrance bottle design. Soft drinks.

Package Design Establishing the packaging concept: deciding what should be or do for the package. Designing the package: size, shape, materials, color, test, brand mark. Packaging test: engineering tests, visual tests, dealer test and consumer test.
