The physical disk drives plug into drive enclosures, which plug into: Fibre Channel loop switches in switched configurations Other disk drive enclosures in configurations without loop switches (for example, 2C2D). An expansion panel, if required, which is essentially a rack-to-rack FC-AL junction box. Each rack has an expansion panel to connect the loop pairs. The base model orderable for the EVA 4000/4100 includes one 4U controller assembly with two HSV200 controllers, one M5314C 3U 14-bay disk drive enclosure, cables, and appropriate mounting hardware. A cabinet must be ordered with this selection. Additional M5314C disk drive enclosures may be added to a maximum of four disk drive enclosures. Licensing (paper) enforces the maximums. This allows additional components to be placed above the controller pair and allows expansion to go from the bottom to the top. Cabling connections are the same as for the EVA5000 2C2D. There are four product numbers orderable for the EVA 8000/8100 base model; each includes one 4U controller assembly with two HSV210 controllers. One base model is the 2C2D, which does not include loop switches unless more than four disk enclosures are added. One product number includes the 60Hz cabinet and the another includes the 50Hz cabinet. The other base model is the 2C6D, which includes loop switches. One product number includes the 60Hz cabinet and the another includes the 50Hz cabinet. Additional M5314C disk drive enclosures may be added to a maximum of four disk drive enclosures. Cables off the controller shelf connect to one disk drive enclosure, then from each drive shelf to the next. The smallest configuration is 2C1D — Two controllers in the same shelf with a single drive shelf to support up to 12 drives. Seen in the diagram is a 2C4D configuration — Two controllers with four drive shelves to support up to 48 drives. As noted, the current configuration can be expanded to a maximum of eight drive shelves off a pair of controllers. The EVA4400 Starter Kit is designed to address smaller SAN configurations that need affordable, fast and easy complete small-SAN deployment.
