2 Peter 1:1–11

Peter’s Departure “I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent” 1 Peter 1:13-14. “When you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else will gird you, and bring you where you do not wish to go” John 21:18.

True Knowledge has to have fruit! Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust. Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Salvation is an Eternal Relationship w/ the Trinity “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” John 17:3.

The Deity of Christ Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

The Granville Sharp Rule “Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ” 2 Peter 1:1. “Looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus” Titus 2:13.

Granville Sharp (1735 – 1813) One of Granville's letters written in 1778 propounded what has come to be known as The Granville Sharp Rule: “When the copulative kai connects two nouns of the same case, if the article ho, or any of its cases, precedes the first of the said nouns or participles, and is not repeated before the second noun or participle, the latter always relates to the same person that is expressed or described by the first noun or participle ...” Daniel B. Wallace says about Sharp: “His strong belief in Christ’s deity led him to study the Scriptures in the original in order to defend more ably that precious truth ... As he studied the Scriptures in the original, he noticed a certain pattern, namely . . . they always referred to the same person. He noticed further that this rule applied in several texts to the deity of Jesus Christ.”

Outline: 1:1-11 The Purchase of Salvation: 1-2. The Provision of Salvation: 3-4. The Practice of Sanctification: 5-7. The Products of Sanctification: 8-11.

Promises: Precious/Magnificent Salvation: “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life . . . will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 8:38-39. Fellowship: “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you” Hebrews 13:5. Continuation: “He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus” Philippians 1:6. Provision: “Seek first His kingdom and His righteous-ness, and all these things will be added to you” Matthew 6:33. Protection: “And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:7. Power: “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13.

Promises: Precious & Magnificent “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, [Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour] After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you” 1 Peter 5:6-8, 10.

A Shelter in the Storm The Lord’s our Rock, in Him we hide, A Shelter in the time of storm; Secure whatever ill betide, A Shelter in the time of storm. Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land, A weary land, a weary land; Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land, A Shelter in the time of storm. A shade by day, defense by night, A Shelter in the time of storm; No fears alarm, no foes afright, A Shelter in the time of storm.

my Jesus, I Love You My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine; For Thee all the follies of sin I resign. My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou; If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now. I love thee because thou hast first loved me and purchased my pardon on Calvary's tree; I love thee for wearing the thorns on thy brow; if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, 'tis now. I’ll love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death, And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath; And say when the death dew lies cold on my brow, If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

Soli Deo Gloria!!!
