CEN activities on bio-based products M/430 on bio-polymers and bio-lubricants CEN/TC 249 ‘Plastics’ and CEN/TC 19 ‘Gaseous and liquid fuels, lubricants and related products of petroleum, synthetic and biological origin’ M/491 on bio-solvents and bio-surfactants CEN/TC 276 ‘Surface Active Agents’ and CEN/TC 411 ‘Bio- based products’ responsible for the work on bio-based solvents M/492 for the development of horizontal standards for bio-based products development of horizontal standards covering common aspects to all bio-based products. Work is being carried out by CEN/TC 411 ‘Bio-based products’ Summary of CEN activities on bio-based products The term of bio-based product refers to products wholly or partly derived from biomass such as plants, marine or forestry materials. One of the reasons of the increasing interest in bio-based products lays on their benefits in relation the current problems of fossil resources depletion and climate change. Bio-based products may provide substitutes for fossil-based products, new product functionalities, low toxicity, high bio-degradability, less resource intensive production and contribute to the efficient use of all natural resources. CEN is currently developing standards in this area under a series of Mandates from the European Commission: M/430 on bio-polymers and bio-lubricants M/491 on bio-solvents and bio-surfactants M/492 for the development of horizontal standards for bio-based products   Regarding M/430, CEN/TC 249 ‘Plastics’ (WG 17 ‘Biopolymers’) is responsible for the work on biopolymers and CEN/TC 19 ‘Gaseous and liquid fuels, lubricants and related products of petroleum, synthetic and biological origin’ (WG 33 ‘Bio-lubricants’) is responsible for the work on bio-based lubricants. Regarding M/491, CEN/TC 276 ‘Surface Active Agents’ is responsible for the work on bio-based surfactants and CEN/TC 411 ‘Bio-based products’ is responsible for the work on bio-based solvents. M/492 requests the development of a series of horizontal standards for bio-based products covering common aspects to all bio-based products. The work is being carried out by CEN/TC 411 ‘Bio-based products’. Name of Presenter: tbc ESOs-ANSI meeting (2017-02-21/22)
