DIC components To set cross Nichols: only include polarizer and analyser in the optical path. (Find a slot without any prism on condenser and objective, swing out compensator) Remove the eyepiece and you should be able to see this: Analyser Shear prism at objective Wollaston prism at condenser Senormont compensator Polarizer Compensator – maintains the cross Nichols Polarizer – changes the contrast. compensator Set screw for adjusting cross Nichols

Phase contrast – there are set-screws for aligning phase ring. To use Phase contrast, just use the matching phase ring (on the condenser turret) according to the objective chosen.
