Timeline JSN August September October November Hand out flyers Finalize calendar Contact existing parents Meet JSN Coordinator Hand out flyers 2nd chance to join Meeting Membership Inventories Special Den Meeting Boy Talk 24-48 before JSN Set up posters Pack Meeting Introduce all new members And hold 2nd chance to join. Pack Meeting JSN Rustin Hall August—Finalize calendar and budget; put in a calendar/ newsletter format and handout/mail to all existing parents. Attend district Join Scouting Night (JSN) training meetings. Meet your JSN Coordinator, commissioner, and den organizer to begin planning the Fall JSN program. Set the Join Scouting Night date. Hang posters and set boy talk date. September—Hand out 1st set of flyers at open house or first day of school (if possible). Schedule JSN - target nights for JSN are on Tuesday – Thursday during the 2nd and 3rd weeks of school. Schedule Boy Talks 24-48 hours before the JSN handing out a 2nd set of flyers, ensure posters are up prior to first day of school. One week prior to the JSN, current den leaders hold special den meetings for Scouts to take invitations to their friends. (Offering an incentive along with the recruiter patch is an excellent idea). Scouts are encouraged to wear their uniform the day of the JSN. Night of the JSN—Individual Den displays are set up in advance. Greet parents and youth as they arrive. Be on the lookout for and identify potential leadership. Refer boys to the game/activity for youth. Ensure Cubmaster signs all applications and treasurer is in attendance to collect registration money and write one check so paid applications can be turned in and youth registered. Set date for new leader orientation meeting. Turn in applications and funds or arrange pickup— Turn in applications and payment to ensure all youth are registered in a timely manner. For every paid application turned in, the Pack will receive an equal quantity of “I’m In!” patches for recognition of new boys joining. 48 hours after the JSN—Follow up with all youth and parents that did not join at the JSN. Welcome registered youth to the pack and remind them of their 1st meeting. 1-week after the JSN—New leader orientation meeting for all new leaders to ensure they have signed up for the next training opportunity and that the first meeting is planned. During First Pack Meeting—Introduce all new youth members along with parents. Each new Scout will recite the Scout Oath and Law, while parents recite the Parent Pledge. Once complete, each boy receives the “I’m In!” patch. 1 month after the Join Scouting Night—Hold a “second chance to join” rally if necessary. November—Membership inventories are conducted to ensure every active youth is registered for insurance purposes, membership validations procedures, and to aid in re-charter process. Turn in application & payment, and Follow-up New Leader Orientation Pack Meeting
