THE U.S. CONSTITUTION

U.S CONSTITUTION CONSTITUTION IS DIVIDED INTO JUST THREE (3) PARTS: 1. THE PREAMBLE OR INTRODUCTION 2. THE SEVEN ARTICLES-EXPLAINS THE PLAN OF GOVERNMENT. 3. THE TWENTY-SEVEN (27) AMENDMENTS-WRITTEN CHANGES TO THE CONSTITUTION.

THE PREAMBLE THE PREAMBLE IS A LIST OF SIX GOALS WHICH EXPLAINS THE PURPOSE OF THE CONSTITUTION. 1. FORM A MORE PERFECT UNION 2. ESTABLISH JUSTICE 3. ENSURE DOMESTIC TRANQUILLITY 4. PROVIDE FOR THE COMMON DEFENSE 5. PROMOTE THE GENERAL WELFARE 6. SECURE THE BLESSINGS OF LIBERTY

THE PREAMBLE

THE SEVEN ARTICLES ARTICLE I-ESTABLISHES AND EXPLAINS THE POWERS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE LEGISLATIVE BRANCH. ARTICLE II- THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH ARTICLE III- THE JUDICIAL BRANCH ARTICLE IV-RELATIONS BETWEEN THE NATIONAL (FEDERAL) GOVERNMENT AND THE STATES.

THE SEVEN ARTICLES ARTICLE V-THE PROCESS FOR AMENDING (CHANGING) THE CONSTITUTION WITH AMENDMENTS. ARTICLE VI-*** THE SUPREMACY CLAUSE: STATES THAT THE CONSTITUTION IS THE ***** “SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND” ARTICLE VII- SETS UP AND EXPLAINS HOW THE STATES WILL RATIFY THE CONSTITUTION.

THE AMENDMENTS THERE ARE 27 AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUION. LAST AMENDMENT ADDED IN 1992. THE FIRST TEN AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTUTUTION ARE CALLED THE : ????????????????????????????

THE BILL OF RIGHTS LIST OF RIGHTS FOR THE CITIZENS THAT MUST BE ENFORCED AND PROTECTED BY THE GOVERNMENT ACCORDING TO THE CONSTITUTION. RATIFIED IN 1791 AND ADDED TO THE CONSTITUTION.

5TH AMENDMENT 3. A PERSON CANNOT BE DENIED LIFE, LIBERTY OR PROPERTY WITHOUT “DUE PROCESS OF LAW”. 4. A PERSON IS PROTECTED FROM “DOUBLE JEOPARDY”. WHAT IS “DOUBLE JEOPARDY”? 5. GOVERNMENT HAS THE RIGHT TO “EMINENT DOMAIN”

5TH AMENDMENT “EMINENT DOMAIN” LOOK AT THE PICTURE. WHAT IS “EMINENT DOMAIN”?

6TH AMENDMENT THERE ARE 4 PARTS TO THE 6TH AMENDMENT: 1. A PERSON ACCUSED OF A CRIME HAS THE RIGHT TO A PROMPT AND PUBLIC TRIAL BY JURY.

6TH AMENDMENT 2. THE ACCUSED MUST BE INFORMED OF THE CHARGES AGAINST THEM. 3. THE RIGHT TO QUESTION ALL WITNESSES, BOTH FOR AND AGAINST.

6TH AMENDMENT 4. THE RIGHT TO A LAWYER (ATTORNEY)

6TH AMENDMENT ***U.S SUPREME COURT CASE: “GIDEON v. WAINWRIGHT”. (1963) ***U.S. SUPREME COURT CASE: “MIRANDA v. ARIZONA”. (1966) CASES DEALING WITH THE RIGHTS OF THE ACCUSED.

7th AMENDMENT THE RIGHT TO A JURY TRIAL IN LAWSUITS. WHAT IS A LAWSUIT. HOW MUCH?

8TH AMENDMENT CANNOT SET EXCESSIVE BAIL. WHAT IS BAIL? FORBIDS EXCESSIVE FINES OR CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT.

9TH AMENDMENT PEOPLE ENJOY MANY OTHER BASIC RIGHTS THAT ARE NOT LISTED IN THE CONSTITUTION. THE GOVERNMENT CANNOT SAY THE “BILL OF RIGHTS” ARE YOUR ONLY RIGHTS.

10TH AMENDMENT KNOWN AS THE “STATES RIGHTS” AMENDMENT. POWERS NOT GIVEN TO THE NATIONAL(FEDERAL) GOVERNMENT OR FORBIDDEN TO THE STATES BY THE CONSTITUTION ARE “RESERVED” FOR THE STATES OR THE PEOPLE.
