William Shakespeare was the son of John Shakespeare, a successful glover and alderman originally from Snitterfield, and Mary Arden, the daughter of an affluent landowning farmer. Mary Arden’s house, three miles north-west of Stratford. Here lived Shakespeare’s mother. This is a typical farm house of the period.

Most biographers agree that Shakespeare may have been educated at the King's New School in Stratford,a free school chartered in 1553, about a quarter of a mile from his home. The school would have provided an intensive education in Latin grammar and the classics. This is the classroom where Shakespeare was educated, as many people believe. It’s still in use.

Six months after the marriage, she gave birth to a daughter, Susanna, who was baptised on 26 May 1583.Twins, son Hamnet and daughter Judith, followed almost two years later on 2 February 1585. After the birth of the twins, there are few historical traces of Shakespeare until he is mentioned as part of the London theatre scene in 1592. Because of this gap, scholars refer to the years between 1585 and 1592 as Shakespeare's "lost years” Shakespeare’s plays are still done all over the world.

The motto of Shakespeare was "Non sanz droict" or "Not without right" (не без права). The interpretation of the description of the Coat of Arms granted to Shakespeare would have been the choice of the designer chosen by the Shakespeare family. The crest design would have not formed part of the Heraldic Documentation. As such an original crest is not in existence there are various interpretations of the Shakespeare Coat of Arms. None of these can be viewed as facts

London and Theatrical Career "All the world's a stage ,and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts..." It is not known exactly when Shakespeare began writing, but contemporary allusions and records of performances show that several of his plays were on the London stage by 1592

From 1594, Shakespeare's plays were performed only by the Lord Chamberlain's Men, a company owned by a group of players, including Shakespeare, that soon became the leading playing company in London. After the death of Queen Elizabeth in 1603, the company was awarded a royal patent by the new king, James I, and changed its name to the King's Men. In 1599, a partnership of company members built their own theatre on the south bank of the Thames, which they called the Globe.The company made Shakespeare a wealthy man.

Later Years and Death Shakespeare divided his time between London and Stratford during his career. Shakespeare died on 23 April 1616. This is the place where the house in which Shakespeare died used to be. It was a big house bought by William Shakespeare for his family when he was still in London. Here he spent the last years of his life.

In his will, Shakespeare left the bulk of his large estate to his elder daughter Susanna. Shakespeare's will scarcely mentions his wife, Anne, who was probably entitled to one third of his estate automatically. Shakespeare's signature on its will Signatures of Shakespeare which are known now

Shakespeare has been commemorated in many statues and memorials around the world THE STRATFORD MEMORIAL BUST - PICTURE OF  SHAKESPEARE The memorial bust of Shakespeare was erected in the Stratford Parish Church. The name of the creator of the original bust is unknown but it is believed to have been commissioned by Shakespeare's daughter and her husband Dr Hall. Mention is made of the bust in the First Folio in a verse by Leonard Digges: "And Time dissolves thy Stratford Monument, Here we alive shall view thee soon. This book, When brass and marble fade, shall make thee look Fresh to all ages." The original memorial bust can therefore be dated between 1616 when Shakespeare died and 1623 when the First Folio was published.

Royal Shakespeare Theatre Another memorial to William Shakespeare is the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The present building was constructed in 1932. The first building was opened on Shakespeare's birth­day in 1879 and destroyed by fire in 1926

John Sanders is believed to have been a scene painter in William Shakespeare's Theatre Company.
