Catholic Parish of Hastings Youth Ministry AGM 2017 WELCOME TO YOUR YOUTH MINISTRY’S STORIES!

Introduction Malo e Lelei and warm welcome to our Youth Ministry’s report! My name is Faaki Tuanaki and been your youth worker since 9 February, 2015 (2 years & a month). It had been a challenging time of work and had met different walks of life: spiritually, physically and mentally. It’s encouraging to learn and experience how much our young people really need our support in different ways and mostly, our ‘Prayers’. I invite you all to take a name of one of our young people and pray for that person. They are all hungry souls seeking help with their Faith and need Holy Companions.

Goals of Catholic Youth Ministry To empower Young People to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today. To draw Young People to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the Catholic Faith Community. To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

Current Activities There are four activities Youth Ministry is involving in such as Confirmation, Youth Mass, Youth Night (We heekly) and Camp. Miscellaneous activities – Hosting other Parishes’ Youth Group who wishes to visit us such as Taita – Lower Hutt, Wellington and Orakei Youth Group, Auckland.

Confirmation On Saturday 18 June 2016, 15 young people were confirmed by Bishop Charles at SPC Some of that group are active members of our Youth Ministry 2017 Confirmation – 25 June, Bishop Charles and will at SHC. (session will start 5 May, please reach out to those who could be in this program Yr.11+)

The cost of 25 young people & chaperones attended was $6,214. Raffles for 2018 Life Teen Camp is on - $2 (3 prizes)

Challenges Attract and keep young people Work closer with different cultures Getting more resources according to young people’s interests Young leaders Other cultures & more younger ones to join Youth Band/music

What did not work Running separate two youth groups (7&8 and plus.) Combined confirmation preparation with Youth group (2016) Leaders’ training

What have I learnt? Young people are in need of prayers for their brokenness and needs (Spirit, body and mind) Young people need sense of belonging, sense of meaning, opportunity to develop competence. The more young people attended formation events (Youth Camps) the better they could do for our Parish! Young people needs Holy Companions

Goals for the next 12 months. Youth Council (Parish Priest, Laity, students reps from all schools, etc) Leaders’ training (weekend) New young people in the band (younger) Hungry Souls, Holy Companions

Acknowledgements I would like to express my sincere thanks to all of you who are here and those who couldn’t make it to this meeting, for all your helps and supports towards the Youth Ministry in different ways. Please bear with our young people when they serve our Parish and give them your full support. They all need your prayers as well as us leaders, in order to fulfil the mission and vision of the Ministry.

Cont. Acknowledgement Parish Priests – Fr Vince, Fr Nathaniel, Fr Manoj. Parish staff Parishioners, Charities (Parish & Diocese) Visitors (sometimes involved with the group)
