Preparing Worship with Prayer

Greeting : Open to me the gates of righteousness, That I may enter through them And give thanks to the Lord. Psalm118:19

Welcome

Call to worship We are called to walk from the dark hill top to the light-filled empty tomb. We are surprised and amazed in the dawning light of Easter Day. Let us greet the Risen Christ who is here among us. Amen and Amen!

Opening Prayer

Common Easter Prayer of the Churches of South and North Korea                         March 2008  O God, Lord of our history as well as of our nation!   Today we praise you, Lord, who have risen as Eternal Life through the struggle for righteousness, between lies and truth, at the fork of the path of dying or living.

O Lord, who is still alive and is with us  O Lord, who is still alive and is with us! As the one day of resurrection has brought a new day continuing through all eternity, and as you accomplish the salvation of all humankind and all creation through the risen One, Free us from the reality of war and conflict and from the world of antagonism and jealousy through your mercy and grace.

O Lord of Peace! We live under the shadow of threats by foreign power; our tears, sighs, wrath and quarrels, all prevail under this shadow. Those without belief and hope say that our nation’s unity is beyond our accomplishing and beyond our waiting. Christians of both North and South, however, believe in the unity of our 70 million people. We believe we can find reconciliation and peace through mutual exchange and cooperation.

When we see through the eyes of Resurrection and Life, we confess that our nation already lives with peace and reunification.  O Lord! Help us, churches of North and South, sisters and brothers of North and South, to achieve resurrection itself with one accord. Help us to enjoy a life of peace through our belief and action.

Help us to be reborn as one nation wearing white clothes, a new nation of white and cleanness. Help us to build a kingdom of peace serving our neighbors, to open a new day of reunification standing firmly as light for the world. We pray in the name of the risen Jesus Christ.  Amen. This Common Prayer was jointly written by the National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK) and the Korean Christian Federation (KCF) in March 2008.

Worship Words: But let justice and fairness flow like a river that never runs dry.

Sometimes, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. But Jesus said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Let us bring to God in prayer our burden of sin and our yoke of guilt, confident and trusting in the Spirit of grace.

God of flowers and bright warm sunshine, We are surprised again. We are surprised by beauty, foregiveness and happiness. You have given us new life. We could not have imagined it before. Now we want to try to live our lives with joy everyday Bringing joy and healing to others. Help us we pray In the name of the risen one, Jesus Christ! Amen. (Silence)

The Great Thanksgiving

We open them to God and to It is right to give our thanks and May God be with us. God is here among us. Let us open our hearts to God. We open them to God and to one another. Let us give thanks to God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Question: Why do we give thanks and praise at this table?

We give thanks because God is always with us We give thanks because God is always with us. We thank you, God, Creator of us all;

from the beginning you made the world for you and for one another. and all its creatures. You made people to live for you and for one another. We praise you, O God.

Halleluyah! Halleluyah! (Singing together) Halleluyah! Halleluyah!

You created Adam and Eve and gave them a garden

you showed Noah a rainbow

you gave Moses strength to free your people

and taught Miriam to sing

you gave courage to Esther

And loyalty to Ruth

you gave David a harp to sing your praise, and helped him defeat the giant.

We praise you, O God.

Halleluyah! Halleluyah! (Singing together) Halleluyah! Halleluyah!

Yet, even they turned away from you and forgot about you, as we do too.

You sent Jesus to the world But you did not forget. You sent Jesus to the world

to show how much you love us and to bring us back to you again.

We praise you, O God.

Halleluyah! Halleluyah! (Singing together) Halleluyah! Halleluyah!

first an infant, then a child, He came as one of us, first an infant, then a child,

later a youth, then an adult.

He rejoiced with those who rejoiced, and wept with those who wept. To the despairing, he spoke a word of hope. To the sick, he gave healing. To the hurting, he was a friend.

Still, people turned away from you.

and nailed him to a cross. They betrayed Jesus and nailed him to a cross.

But he was lifted from the grave and restored to life, that he might be with us and we with him, alive for evermore! Therefore with all the saints of every time and place, we join the angels in their praise:

(Singing together) Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in your name.

Question: Why do we eat bread at this table?

We gather at this table to remember that on the night before he died, Jesus ate with his friends, he took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it, he broke it and gave it to them, saying:

“Take, eat. This is my body, given for you. Each time you do this, remember me.”

Question: Why do we drink from the cup at this table?

That same night, Jesus also took a cup, and after giving thanks, passed it to his friends, saying: “Drink. This cup, poured out for you, is the promise of God. Whenever you drink it, remember me.”

Question: What do we remember at this table?

We remember Jesus’ death and celebrate his resurrection; we await with hope his coming again to bring peace and justice to the earth; and we proclaim the mystery of our faith:

Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. X 2

Question: For whom do we pray at this table?

We pray for God’s world . . . .

Send, O God, your Holy Spirit upon us and what we do here, that we and these gifts, touched by your Spirit, may be signs of life and love to one another, and to the world.

Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory is yours, God most holy, now and forever.

(Singing together) Amen. X 3

Prayer of Jusus

Our Father in heaven,       hallowed be your name,       your kingdom come,       your will be done,       on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins       as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial       and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours       now and for ever. Amen.
