All-Play fully accessible playground Final presentation Presented by: CJ Double m design solutions March 30th, 2015 Julianna
Introduction to the problem 1 in 20 children in Canada are disabled Most playgrounds are not accessible for mentally and physically disabled persons Children with disabilities often have to sit out Wanted to design a safe playground that everyBODY can use Mike
How people cope and limited solutions Not using the playground equipment and instead sitting out Playing on equipment that is not safe for them In a few cases people can travel to a nearby accessible playground Our choices were to modify a pre-existing playground to be accessible OR design a new accessible playground Courtney
Our solution Researched common disabilities in Canada Designed an accessible playground including CSA approved equipment and our own swing design, Swing-Mate Found pre-existing equipment that would be an asset to the playground Designed Swing-Mate, a swing that would allow children with muscle deficiencies to swing alongside a parent or guardian Mark
Playground features All bridges have a width of 48’’ One transfer station Ramp at a slope of 1:12 that is connected to all elevated play equipment 3 different maneuvering spaces for wheelchairs Stainless steel slide for children with cochlear implants Pour-in-place rubber flooring Sensory equipment Swing for children in wheelchairs Swing for children with muscular deficiencies Julianna
