5th Grade Chapter 19, Lesson 1 Comparing fractions 5th Grade Chapter 19, Lesson 1

Let’s have some fun with fractions http://www.teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=24266&title=Mr_ Duey___Fractions_Official_Video In our last chapter, you used models to find equivalent fractions.

Let’s Review equivalent fractions

Let’s review another Sam has a recipe that calls for 3 4 cup of juice. 9 How many 12ths are in 3 4 ? Sam has 2 3 of a cup. 8 How many 12ths are in ? Does Sam have enough juice to make the recipe? That’s right, there is not enough.

Now, you will use models to compare fractions. We are going to read some real-world problems and use picture models to answer our questions. Go to document camera

Now we are going to break into groups of 3 or 4 to compare fractions.

Everyone has done a great job! It’s time to write about we learned in our math journals. Remember to draw an example showing how you can use fraction strips to compare fractions when you are unsure of the comparison.
