UCS C-Series Server – Value Proposition Messaging

Key Customer Comments and notes Customer Feedback from Lasalle Solutions: (C-Series Customer Case Study) Performance is appealing Flexible and Stable infrastructure Desire to be market leader with infrastructure to support it Confidence in Cisco Change the conversation – Dell talks all speeds and feeds, should be an architecture discussion and customers are tired of the old conversation Best of Breed Partner ecosystem with Vmware and EMC very appealing(partnered with Mkt Leaders) Services Management (SmartNet contract with single Contract # - HUGE ADVANTAGE) 32 – 64 bit migrations Virtualized Environment that was built in a cloud infrastructure Flexibility to re-provision workloads from home, no additional licensing required Offers customers a competitive advantage Notes: Simplified systems management with fewer interfaces Coordinated service provisioning provides hardware identity control for “stateless” computing and faster bare metal deployment, reconfiguration, repair & recovery, and movement Single system that encompasses unified fabric, industry standard x86 components, and hypervisor networking Efficient Scale, fewer servers with more memory Lower cost, fewer servers, switches, adapters, cables, less power/cooler, less SW licensing and fewer points of management One “logical” server to manage, same effort for 1 to 320 servers Vmware integration Restored visibility to VMs Gartner comments – outflank HP by talking about “form factor agnostic” story for UCS

Key Comments Before Cisco's market entry, most server vendors were focused on physical integration, maintains Soni Jiandani, VP of Cisco's server access and virtualization technology group. "There wasn't really a lot of innovation until we started to deploy things like the Unified Fabric, the high-memory expander technology, and the ability to drive virtualization at the I/O level with our virtualized interface card," she says. While this is typical marketing talk, Cisco's combination of best-of-breed technologies into a single server package was brilliant. It has forced competitors to emphasize how they, too, offer a broad range of tools, even if those tools aren't bundled into one box easily described in a marketing brochure. Each innovation can be deployed as a building block to reduce cost and increase agility; The journey to Unified Computing delivering a more efficient, simplified and more manageable data center. The journey to UC can be one of incremental improvements, dictated by your needs, that when fully combined can unleash the full potential of your data center.

What Sets Cisco Unified Computing Apart… Unified Fabric – FCoE + DCB provides dramatic reduction in network adapters, switches, and cabling. FCoE – ANSI T11 standard for carrying FC traffic inside ethernet frame Data Center Bridging – IEEE features for adding FC-like intelligence to Ethernet VMware Integration VN-Link – provides virtual machine vNICs the same management visibility and control as physical NICs. Allows VM network configuration to move with the VM via Vmotion Pass-through Switching & Hypervisor Bypass– Cisco Palo adapter provides VM Direct Path support for “pass-through” like configuration of VM network connectivity without the overhead of a software vSwitch. Cisco Extended Memory Technology – cost-effectively offers more than double the amount of memory (384 GB) than traditional 2-socket servers Stateless Server Provisioning – Using Service Profiles, UCS Manager implements role and policy-based mechanisms to manage a server’s hardware identity Open API – Via a published API, Cisco enables support for any 3rd party management application to fully manage the server ecosystem

Key Concepts to include in copy block Proof points: Best of breed partnering and innovations Simplified management Efficient scale (more memory, fewer servers) Broad solutions portfolio Provisioning – “stateless” computing Performance leadership Choice of form factor (blade or rack) form factor agnostic Standalone rack server or part of UCS Virtualization optimized (down to the IO level) Reduces TCO and increases business agility Migration path to Unified Computing Flexible architecture Innovation Traditional and Non-Traditional workloads
