Over one billion people around the world live in extreme poverty, surviving on less than $1.25 a day. A new Brookings study examines the prospects for ending poverty by 2030 and the factors that will determine progress toward this goal. They don’t think it has gotten any better over the last twenty years “Within the last two decades, 660 million people have risen out of poverty. Average real incomes in developing countries have doubled and the world’s average life expectancy has increased by four years. We are developing the understanding of what is needed to reduce poverty in varied and complex circumstances”- Oxfam Strategic Plan , 2013-2019.
