Common Finance Misconceptions About Nursing They Don’t Care about their Financial Performance. Everything is ALWAYS About Patient Safety Productivity is too hard for them to Manage. When I talk to Those People they just Don’t listen. They are Too Dumb to understand a Financial Report.

Common Finance Misconceptions About Information Technology People All those people want to do is Spend Money. They think if they have all the latest Toys, life would be better. They never look at the reports they send us…..they are meaningless. They never get anything Done.

The Place for Silos is on a Farm…Not in a Hospital

It’s All About Teamwork.

Talking with Nursing about Finances Remember Nurses Did Not go to Finance School and some have never taken a Finance Class BE PATIENT Teach them how to read and understand a financial report. Don’t Have to Teach them how to Be a Finance Person Help them understand what they can and can’t control Help them understand how to Budget Personal Opinion: If Finance does the budget for everyone – They budget belongs to Finance and not to the Departments. Listen – Seek First to Understand and then to be Understood. – This is a 2 Way Street. Don’t be Afraid to Disagree – A good PROFESSIONAL Argument will lead to a better Outcome.

Talking with Nursing about Finances (Continued) We have to Share the Information that we have and Not Hoard it. We have to take a more Active Role in Operations Get away from your office and go talk to the patient care staff. We need to Learn how Operations work – We don’t Have to Do Operations But If we Don’t Know Then How Can We Help Anyone.

Talking with Information Technology People About Finances When asking for data – Explain what you are doing and why you need it. They will understand and get you what you really need – They understand what data is available. Don’t be afraid to stop them when they are speaking “technical”. Prioritize – They can not do every project Today. Involve IT on the frontend of a project and not as an after thought.

How We Work Together When These Three Groups work Together – The Sky is the Limit. It is ALL about TEAMWORK – Working Together for the PATIENT. When They Don’t – You Will Fail and If you Don’t Fail, Your Work Life Will Be VERY Hard and Will be a Struggle. Be a Leader
