S Adding Decimal Video Notes Have a piece of paper ready to take notes to document 5 new words or ideas about adding decimal numbers. Click on the website https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/8583-add-decimals-using-base-ten-blocks#fndtn-lesson Play the video and record your notes. Include the steps used to adding decimals using base ten blocks using a flow map. Once your notes are complete, turn it in. You may watch the video more than once. This task uses: Learning Objective(s): 5.NBT.b.7 Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used. SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement Teacher Notes: Teacher’s name/email: Patty Clark /patty.clark@cpsb.org School: Western Heights Elementary Louisiana State Standard: 5.NBT.b.7 Grade Level/Subject: 5th/ Math Special Directions/Considerations: Students need access to internet. Adding and Subtracting Decimals Have a piece of paper ready to show your work and record your results. If you cannot answer the questions, watch the “Stuck? Watch a video” links. Answer the questions on the site: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/pre-algebra/decimals-pre-alg/adding-decimals-pre-alg/e/adding_decimals Print or record your results and turn them in. AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool substitute with functional improvement Teacher Notes: Teacher’s name/email: Patty Clark/patty.clark@cpsb.org School: Western Heights Elementary Louisiana State Standard: 5.NBT.b.7 Grade Level/Subject: 5th/ Math Special Directions/Considerations: Students need access to internet. Decimal Discussion Open Forum Have your math journal with you. Login to http://kidblog.org . Click on I’m a student and enter the join code: qa6dh9f Think about what you know about decimal numbers. In 3-5 sentences, explain the relationship between adding and subtracting decimals by leaving a comment to the teacher’s original blog question. Respond to at least two classmates agreeing or disagreeing with their responses. Why do you agree or disagree? What would you add to or change about their response? This task uses: Learning Objective(s): 5.NBT.b.7 Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used. MODIFICATION Technology allows for a significant task redesign. Teacher Notes: Teacher’s name/email: Patty Clark/ patty.clark@cpsb.org School: Western Heights Elementary Louisiana State Standard: 5.NBT.b.7 Grade Level/Subject: 5th/ Math Special Directions/Considerations: Students need access to internet and a special code. Activity Evaluation: Print student responses in blog Prerequisites for students: keyboarding skills
