Reid, from Glasgow, and McCollum, from County Tyrone, claimed they had been kidnapped in Ibiza and forced to go on a drugs run to Peru by Colombian gangsters who threatened them and their families.  Michaella McCollum and accomplice Melissa Reid were jailed last year Pair admitted trying to smuggle cocaine worth £1.5m from Peru to Spain. What should their punishment be? They are currently being held in a Peruvian prison in ‘horrendous conditions’ but there are plans to move them nearer to their families for the rest of their sentences. Stephen Lawrence The eighteen-year-old is stabbed to death in an unprovoked attack by a gang of white youths as he waits at a bus stop in Eltham, south-east London, with his friend Duwayne Brooks. It took many years of appeal to get the case back in to court and eventually, in 2012, two men were found guilty of Stephen’s brutal murder. Microscopic evidence was found on their clothing which linked them to the murder. Dobson and Norris are both found guilty of murder at the end of a six-week trial. Both men receive life sentences; Dobson is jailed for a minimum of 15 years and two months, Norris for 14 years and three months. This was viewed as a racially provoked murder. Is life in prison enough? Too much? Should life mean life?

Is this enough or too much? Driver who killed Anthony Hilson convicted of causing his death by dangerous driving. The driver who killed cyclist Anthony Hilson in September 2012, when she took her eyes off the road, has been convicted of causing his death by dangerous driving. Victoria McClure had previously pleaded guilty to causing Mr Hilson's death by careless driving, but a jury has now convicted her of causing death by dangerous driving. McClure already has 3 speeding convictions and has attended a drivers awareness course. Anthony Hilson was out for a Sunday morning ride when he was hit. There was high visibility that day and a clear, open stretch of road ahead, yet McClure failed to see Mr Hilson before looking at her satnav to use the zoom function. Reading Crown Court was told that McClure would have had a window of 18 seconds in which to see Mr Hilson, but she only realised he was there when there was nothing she could do to avoid the collision.  McClure was jailed for 18 months and disqualified from driving for two and a half years. Is this enough or too much?

FIFA FIFA have been accused of corruption. This means that they have taken bribes for favours – for example a country that has been awarded to host the World Cup, may have paid some people who work for FIFA money to vote for their country. It is likely, that if found guilty, some of the officials (people who work for FIFA) will be sentenced to lengthy prison sentences. Some of the bribes are thought to include £6.5 & £10 million payments! Why is this a crime? If found guilty, what penalty do you think ‘they’ should receive?
