What is compression clothing? Compression clothing is clothing that is skin tight and provides pressure and heat insulation to the extremity that it is worn on. Is claimed to have health benefits during and after competition in regards to athletic performance, swelling, injury prevention, and overall health of the athlete

Why are consumers attracted? Colorful and stylish The way it fits on the body The way it feels on the body The way it looks on the body Health benefits Advertising Famous athletes in sports

Effectiveness of marketing compression clothes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2HcwLgpBSY Effective because...

Impact of Allen Iverson Basketball legend, played primarily for 76ers Suffered bursitis in his shooting elbow On January 21, 2001, Iverson came onto the court with a white arm sleeve on, or tube bandage. Iverson’s trainer Lenny Currier suggested this method temporarily for something that would probably need surgery later on in his career. Swelling and pain in the elbow had caused him to wear the sleeve https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grXws5m11SA

Associated injuries compression clothing may help Bursitis Increased muscle support and delayed fatigue Improved circulation which aids in recovery Prevents large build ups of lactic acid which aids in injury prevention Reduced delayed muscle soreness

Claims Accurate? My personal baseball experience Track case study: A research study done by the Journal of Sports Sciences evaluated track runners and how custom fit compression shorts affected performance; 10 male, 10 female Compression shorts were used but also loose fitting shorts as a control group The results showed that skin temperature increased at a faster rate during warm- ups, vertical jump height increased, increased flexion and extension torque was observed, and finally reduced impact forces by 27% compared to football pants This all translates to evidence of reduction in injury.

Misconceptions about compression clothes People think that compression clothing is only for injured people or people who are inactive Placebo effect Do I need compression clothing? No research Bad to wear too much
