Presentation transcript:

Fixed mindset Intelligence is set in stone. You either have it when you are born or you don’t

Growth mindset Intelligence can be developed. Nobody is born knowing everything or being able to do everything…you have to LEARN what you want to know or be able to do. Growth Mindset Animation

This is how babies learn so much! Babies never stop using their brain! They FAIL an unbelievable amount of times, but the effort keeps coming and look how much they accomplish in just a few years… Control their body Laugh Talk Crawl Walk Lots of other things

If you face these challenges with a fixed mindset then you will: Goal LOOK SMART at all costs Effort Putting EFFORT IN IS BAD because if you have to try then you aren’t a “natural” Setbacks or challenges HIDE MISTAKES AND AVOID CHALLENGES because they might make you not look as smart as people think you are LOOKS LIKE Put quick answers down with no justification AVOID EFFORT -distract yourself -distract others -not even try AVIOD ANYTHING YOU THINK IS TOO DIFFICULT -fractions -art -division -etc

But, if you face these challenges with a growth mindset then you will: Goal LEARN at all costs Effort EFFORT AND HARD WORK ARE THE KEYS to getting smarter Setbacks or challenges MISTAKE ARE GOOD THINGS to be learned from. Things we are not great at are confronted…not run away from. LOOKS LIKE Do whatever it takes to reach the goal or outcome Put in as much effort as it takes to master the goal or outcome because you know that is all it takes…hard work and effort Look for more challenges! Because challenging your brain is how you get SMARTER!

So what should we do about it? You MUST figure out which mindset you are TRULY in…not the one you WANT to be in…but the one you ARE in. Then all you have to do is react like growth mindset people react to challenges and learning…THAT’S IT! Difficult things are a chance to learn and grow! Not things to run away from! You CAN LEARN ANYTHING WITH ENOUGH EFFORT AND HARD WORK!!! THAT’S ALL YOU NEED! If you haven’t learned it yet…then you need some more effort and your brain will actually grow!!!!

The Power of YET! I am not good at math. I am not creative. I am not athletic. WRONG!!!!! That is fixed mindset talk! I don’t understand division…YET! I cannot design a house…YET! I cannot catch a ball…YET!!! I could not spell “apple”…YET!!!!

Mindset Thinking and Self-Talk What do you say to yourself (your kids) when things get hard? When you’re (they’re) stuck and want to quit? What can we say to ourselves (our kids) to change our (their) mindset and thinking about the situation?

Change your words; change your mindset!
