WEST DOWN SCHOOL NEWSLETTER May 2017 Tag Rugby Year’s 5 & 6 took part in the Tag Rugby competition in Barnstaple. They did amazingly well and won the trophy plateI All the children had a great time even though the weather wasn’t too good. Well done everybody! Mini Olympics Year 2 took part in the Mini Olympics event held in Ilfracombe this week. The children had lots of fun and made new friends. Well done children for your great sportsmanship and behaviour. Maple Class Year 1 children - Please practise your phonics over the half term holiday. Year 2 children - Please practise your 2,5 and 10 times tables. You have all worked really hard, thank you. Willow Class We had a wonderful day at Lynmouth even though the weather was very wet! We visited the Flood Museum, the Exmoor Centre, we took a lovely wet walk through Glen Lynn Gorge and the children had chance to play with the water canons there. All children were extremely well behaved. Year 6 Bikeablilty – Well done to all of the year 6 children who passed and took part in the Bikeablity course. Oak Class took part in the North Devon qualifier football tournament at the Ilfracombe Academy. The children played extremely well and showed true sportsmanship throughout. Well done children. Year 4 Children took part in the Tarka Tennis tournament in Barnstaple. All of the children had fun and played very well. The whole school was visited by a couple of Anna Wakefield and David Chugg’s very cute lambs. Children had chance to ask Anna and David lots of questions and give the lambs a stroke. Summer Club If you wish to book your child into Summer Club please email parents@westberryfederation.org.uk or hand your completed form into the school office. Payments can be made on ParentMail or cash or cheque into the school office. Summer Weather It is lovely to have the warm, sunny weather here and to be able to enjoy outside activities. However, we want to keep everyone safe and feeling well. Please ensure your child brings a bottle of water and a named sun hat with them to school. Also, please can children come to school with sunscreen applied. If possible a 24 hour one for the younger children would be beneficial as we cannot apply sunscreen during the day. Older children who are able to apply their own sunscreen may keep a named bottle in school. THANK YOU TO STEPHANIE ROE WHO KINDLY DONATED CHERRY CLASS CHICKEN EGGS TO HATCH IN SCHOOL, WE ARE VERY HAPPY WITH THE RESULT! A big thank you to the local solar farm for donating a substantial amount of money to school. This has enabled us to buy a new interactive screen for the hall and lots of new toys for Cherry Class stay and play. E-SAFETY Model good E-Safety habits. Encourage a healthy balance between your child’s screen time and enjoying the lovely weather over the half term holiday.
