Recruiting Veterans Veterans re-entering into what we have created by Eric Ferguson

Veterans are trying to re-enter into what we have created

Common Experiences from the Military Basic training; 8-13 weeks depending on service Measured and held accountable to results Respect for leadership and etiquette Punctuality Discipline These are generalizations of course

Job Training Varies MOS or military occupational specialty (Army, Air Force or Marines) or rating (Navy) Google an MOS; very good results on ones I tried Examples: 11B (11 Bravo), 76Y MOS Officer and NCO leadership training Often not on resumes

Discharge Papers (DD 214) Best practice includes not asking Perceived disabilities People discharged for behaviour acceptable now The veteran can tell you what is on the DD 214 discharge papers

ESGR/ Employer Support of Guard and Reserve http://www.esgr.mil/Employers/How-ESGR-Can-Help.aspx Hiring a Guardsman or a Reservist makes good business sense. These are disciplined and skilled workers who display pride, leadership, responsibility, and professionalism in what they do. They understand the mission of their civilian jobs and make it a priority to get results, all while displaying a strong work ethic. Service members often possess advanced skills, certifications, education, and are more valuable employees. They also recognize their employment is an essential element in sustaining the All-Volunteer Force for the future.

USERRA For service of less than <31 days - the next work period on the first day after duty ends, taking into account safe travel home plus an eight-hour rest period. >30 days <181 days, the service member must submit an application for reemployment within 14 days of release from service. >180 days, an application for reemployment must be submitted within 90 days of release from service. USERRA requires service members provide advance written or verbal notice Able (but are not required) to use accrued vacation or annual leave while performing military duty.
