Deforestation By: Elyssa Image from: www.shtfpreparedness.com How many trees were cut down to make just this town?

Habitat loss Deforestation can cause habitat loss. Up to seventy percent of the world’s wildlife live in forests. The forests that we are tearing apart. The following animals on the left, the bonobo, giant panda, amur leopard, and tree kangaroo, are all examples of endangered species thanks to deforestation.

Soil erosion Deforestation can cause soil erosion. Without the trees to hold it down, the soil won’t stay in place. It will either blow away or wash away. We lose most our arable land to this.

Global warming Deforestation affects global warming. Once the trees are cut down or removed in some other way, all the carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere. With cars and factories already producing carbon dioxide, deforestation only makes it worse.

Greenhouse emissions Deforestation can increase greenhouse emissions. Like I said in the slide before, when trees are cut down, the carbon dioxide stored inside are released into the atmosphere. The greenhouse emissions act like a blanket, trapping the sun’s energy in the earth’s atmosphere, making global warming worse.

Climate change Deforestation can be a major driver of climate change. With so many trees cut down, the great quantity of carbon dioxide is released. The great change in amount causes climate change.

Rain forests The rain forests are disappearing. At this rate, they should be gone in forty years. Deforestation is at fault for this. Rain forests contain hundreds of species and we haven’t even discovered them all! But we will never be able to discover them if they are gone.
