SVUSD Alternative Programs Silverado High School – fully WASC accredited alternative high school designed to assist students in making up credit deficits. Mira Monte High School – Independent study diploma program (WASC accredited) Adult Education –night school or online courses (based on availability)

Additional ways to earn credit Adult Education Classes – Make up failed or missed classes; offered as evening or online classes ROP – Earn elective credits in career preparation classes at a variety of county-wide sites Community College Classes –Take courses not offered at Silverado or Mira Monte with permission from the school administration.

Additional ways to earn credit Summer School – Summer school will be offered if the budget allows. Outside P.E. – earned independently through organized sports team or gym. GEARS program – read current book selections, keep a reading log, and do a brief project for added elective credit (see Mrs. Phillips for details)

Graduation Requirements (same as for other SVUSD high schools) Earn a minimum of 220 units of coursework: 165 required units; 55 elective credits Earn a minimum of a "C-" average (1.75 total G.P.A.) Demonstrate grade level writing proficiency 8 hours of community service completed To participate in the graduation ceremony a student must have completed all graduation requirements prior to the ceremony

Grading Grades are based on Tests & Quizzes Homework Projects/Labs Student Writing Late assignments may be assessed a grade and/or credit penalty Failed, missing, & incomplete assignments are not “averaged” in 12/27/2017

Grading Must maintain a 70% minimum on all tests & assignments Minimum of C average expected in all classes to stay enrolled in Independent Study Failed tests & incomplete assignments will be retaken & completed for a passing grade 12/27/2017

“Math” Tutorial Students may come in at any time for assistance Math Lab: Friday’s 9:00-11:00am Hotmath.com: online tutorials Khan Academy Text based and online versions of classes, except Business Math (text only)

School Rules & Classroom Policies No eating or drinking in classroom No chewing gum in classroom Cell phones MUST be powered OFF (not on silent or vibrate) and put out of sight during class. Use of earbuds is not permitted during class time. No smoking in the vicinity of the school campus (the entire block!) Visiting other schools – get permission or stay away 12/27/2017

Dress Code Clothes should be school appropriate – no overly revealing clothing No spaghetti straps, NO undergarment visible No men’s tank shirts or sleeveless undershirts Hats and other headwear are not allowed inside buildings No clothing with inappropriate images (guns, alcohol, drug-related, gang-related) No pajamas or bedroom slippers

Work Permits Every minor (under age 18) needs to have a work permit issued by his/her school Work permits expire at the beginning of each school year Work permits can be revoked for poor attendance or failing grades Work hours during school are limited and certain jobs are restricted for minors Allow 48 hours for work permits to be issued
