Graduation Requirements English: 4 credits Math: 3 credits Science: 3 credits Social Studies: 3 credits PE: 1.5 credits Health: .5 credit 24 credits total required

Four-Year College Requirements English: 4 credits Math: 3 credits: Alg. I, Geom., Alg. II (4th year of math strongly encouraged) Science: 3 credits (4th year encouraged) Social Studies: 3 credits (more than 3 credits encouraged)

Global Language Not required to graduate 2 years (2 levels) of the same language required for admission to some colleges (UW-Madison) College graduation requirement may be met in high school Retroactive credits/college credit available with Spanish V

Course Selections The Course Description Handbook can be found on the DAHS webpage. Your advisory teacher will also have a copy of the handbook.

English Senior Comp. & Lit AP Lit—Requires summer reading; if you sign up for AP Lit, you must commit to taking it. You will not be allowed to drop it for Senior Comp. & Lit in the fall.

English Additional English Curriculum: Writers’ Workshop: one semester, .5 credit This is an interest-based class for students interested in creative writing. You may not take it to replace a semester of your regular English course curriculum. You may only take it as an elective. You may, however, choose it to replace a semester of a failed English class if necessary.

Project Lead the Way (PLTW) PLTW is a program that applies engineering, science, math, and technology through a project-based, hands-on approach to solve complex, open-ended problems in a real-world context. Students focus on the process of defining and solving a problem, not on getting the “right” answer. They learn how to apply STEM knowledge, skills, and habits of mind to make the world a better place through innovation.

Senior Release

Lab Assistants Seniors may select a lab assistant in place of one class. This entails working individually as a teacher’s aide. Students must seek these placements out on their own. Lab assistant forms will be available later in the spring. You may write “lab assistant” on your scheduling sheet with teacher’s name if you know you’re going to add that to your schedule.

Make sure you turn in your scheduling sheet so your counselor will know to add a lab assistant to your schedule.

IMPORTANT See your counselor if you’d like help in selecting classes for next year. Make sure you register for required classes if you failed any this year or last year. You will have the opportunity to input your selections into the computer during study hall on Jan. 25 & 30. You must turn in your course selection sheet at that time.

Scheduling You may also enter your selections into your Skyward account at any time on your own beginning Jan. 13. Instructions will be on the school’s website. But please make sure to turn your course selection sheet in to the guidance office, or turn it in with the others on the day your study hall inputs their selections.

COLLEGE PLANNING Please remind your parents about our College Planning Night for juniors and parents on Mon., Jan. 30 at 6 pm in the PAC.

ACT Testing All juniors will be required to take the ACT at DAHS on Feb. 28. You will be able to use your score from that test for college applications. If you aren’t happy with that score, you can register to retake the ACT in April or June.
