12.3 – Surface Area of Pyramids and Cones

Pyramid: A polyhedron with one base

Lateral Face: The faces of the solid, not including the base

Height: The perpendicular distance from the vertex to the base Slant Height: The height of one of the lateral faces

Regular Pyramid: A pyramid with a regular polygon as a base

Cone: One circular base

Surface Area of a Regular Pyramid: B is the area of the base P is the perimeter of the base

Surface Area of a Right Cone:

1. Find the lateral area of each lateral face of the regular pyramid 1. Find the lateral area of each lateral face of the regular pyramid. Then find the surface area of the pyramid. B = s2 P = 9+9+9+9 B = (9)2 P = 36 B = 81

Find the lateral area of the regular shape.

Find the surface area of the regular shape. B = s2 P = 4+4+4+4 B = (4)2 P = 16 B = 16

Find the surface area of the regular shape. (10)(5) P = 50

Find the surface area of the regular shape.

6.The surface area of the right cone is 400πm². Find the value of x. -64π -64π 8π 8π 8 m
