C-POD & C-POD-F

C-POD-F 'Maxing-out' in noise will be much rarer. Frequency range kHz 20-160kHz 16-220kHz Sampling rate on demand. 200ns resolution 1MHz with real time upsampling to 250ns resolution Real-time sonar detection and filtering NO YES Waveform capture of selected train clicks Optional acoustic release add-on Self-adjusting threshold (user control) Lithium batteries Deep sleep mode Delayed start Acoustic Release delayed start Environmental data, each minute Temperature Angle to vertical Battery voltages recorded YES, 1 YES, up to 3 stacks Memory SD card Pre formatted. 4GB Blank, up to 32GB Click data Time to 5microseconds Envelope: amplitude of individual cycles 1st, 2nd, 5th cycles 4 peaks, 1 before and 2 after max Wavelength of cycle before last Cycle wavelengths 4 inter-peak intervals, 1 before and 2 after max Bandwidth NO (derived in post processing from above) Duration N of cycles Postion of loudest cycle in click Frequency range of cycles in click N of amplitude reversals in click Sonar filter triggered on this click Selected click waveforms YES Up to 21 pairs of amplitude and IPI Record size 12bytes 16 bytes Real time filtering Weak filter, to favour longer weak clicks Strong filter, to favour shorter loud clicks YES, 1 step YES, 4 steps Bandwidth filters One, all amplitudes 3 filters, with independent amplitude control Automatic Thermal gain adjustment Sonar filtering YES, 2 independent filters C-POD-F 'Maxing-out' in noise will be much rarer. Acoustic release will allow light moorings, with lower servicing costs, and lower risks to users and whales. Starting and SD card use are easier. Better click data will enable more accurate train classification.

Captured waveform of a porpoise click: New tools produce new discoveries: Captured waveform of a porpoise click: Porpoise clicks are downsweeps!

… cool data … a porpoise feeding buzz from Newquay… these irregular spacings are just due to the screen pixel granularity

C-POD-F - looking inside the click: Porpoise Dolphin

C-POD-F - wavenumber of loudest wave in click: Click amplitude Click duration. 113 clicks selected by train detection algorithm: 409 clicks logged by C-POD-F: In 'sand clicks' and long dolphin clicks the loudest cycle is earlier. In boat sonar clicks its position is much more variable. These additional waveform features ( from the 'F') will improve the accuracy of both the train detection and species classification.
