LC As Honeywell Systems Integrator Control System: Experion PKS (R300 – R410), redundant server set Controller: C200(E) obsolete since Q3, 2014 Sizing: 1000 IO < > 3500 IO Distributed by: Honeywell Process Solutions, Amsterdam NL Honeywell Enraf, Delft NL
LC As Honeywell Systems Integrator Control System: Experion LX (R110) Controller Series 8 C300 Distributed by: De Gidts & Feldman BV, NL
Transnational Blenders B.V. “TNB is an independent, Dutch, lubricant blender for marine customers and automotive brands. TNB serve oil-majors, brand owners and distributors with value- and high performing lubricants.” Based in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. Present production: 65.000 Mt Storage: 103 tanks of storage space 17.327 M3 storage capacity Transport by: Road Water
LC’s Quick Scan ® Inventory Replacement objectives Control and HMI are based on complex, custom C++ applications Process control system runs on the office-network One of the servers was 11 years old It was unclear if the backup server is up-to-date They were used to restart the server up to 5 times a day The C++ application included safe guarding logics No functional or technical knowledge about the system The profibus interface is unreliable as instrument fieldbus Replacement objectives Reduce downtime and increase data integrity through higher reliability Increase maintainability for hardware and software Prepare for future by introduction of an expandable system Keep initial costs down by phased replacement
Project Solution (Phase 1) 1335 IO based on 2 Profibus loops with 60 slaves each.
Project Solution (Phase 2) 87 IO based on 1 Profibus loop with 35 slaves 171 IO based on S8 C300 IO
Project Benefits Increased reliability Maintainability The redundant server set increases data integrity The eServer separates the control network from the office network and reduces station overload (by non-operational personnel) Maintainability Servers, stations and switched into a conditioned server room/cabinet Engineering is based on S88 standard and use of control typicals Future expansions Experion LX is expandable with extra S8 C300 controllers Honeywell’s ControlNet interface enables reliable expansion for remote IO Initial costs Replacement is divided in two phases; the success of the first phase increased commitment for second phase and expansion Reduction of engineering costs for next phases
Lessons Learned / Recommendations Honeywell Experion LX (S8 C300) Knowledge is exchangeable but the control typically are not Easier profibus configuration but different license calculation Expansion/Migration strategy for Experion PKS C200 installed base !!! Working with Honeywell TAC Take account of project planning / mile stones More status updates Share lessons learned Working with a distributor Hardware design (selection tool) Capacity (license calculation, CPU load) Limitations on offered solution (e-server) Information about engineering tools
