Scholarship Committee We currently budget $1,500 in scholarships to be awarded to graduating current or former FFA members each year. There were no applicants in 2016. We need more volunteers to serve on the scholarship committee to evaluate applications.

ACHS FFA Report

THANK YOU! The chapter was recognized as a 3-Star Chapter in 2015. 20 members traveled to Louisville Kentucky for free because of your financial support.

Hay Donations Many thanks to each person who has donated hay to the FFA chapter recently. Our stockpiles are currently low. Donations are gladly accepted! Round bales Square hay Straw Hay and straw donations make livestock projects more affordable for students.

Agriculture Department Enrollment Currently 182 students enrolled (some duplicates) 3 course sections were cut back in 16-17 school year We need agricultural representation on the District CTE Advisory Council. Consider lobbying school administration and school board to reinstate 3rd full time agriculture instructor.

Land Laboratory Current animal status: 1 Lim Flex Steer 11 Commercial Ewes and 1 Suffolk Ram 8 Commercial Doe Goats and 1 Boer Buck Several market goats and lambs

Land Laboratory Recent projects Swine Barn Phase 3: Electrification Show Sheep Barns 1 and 2 Water hydrants installed at each show sheep barn Automatic waterer installed in show sheep barn 1 New gate added for feed delivery to grain bin Fertilizer and Lime spread Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 Nature trail renovation Brush pile burned with help of VADOF Additional light inside of barn, more to be installed soon on outside

Land Laboratory Future Projects and Needs: New roof on main barn Stock trailer Outdoor classroom repairs Tree removal Loading dock for livestock trailers and trucks Gravel for road

Affiliation The Virginia FFA Alumni association has moved its membership status to that of affiliation instead of traditional dues paid membership. We need to affiliate to be associated with the National FFA Alumni Association. What is affiliation? All dues money collected will remain at the local level. The chapter must send a flat rate $100.00 fee for all members. If we have 25 life members, the $100.00 fee is waived.

Affiliation Current Dues Status: Regular/Annual Dues $10.00 Life $160 (one time payment) Regular Local Annual $5.00 Local Life $25.00 (one time payment) Currently have 22 lifetime members (need 25 to get fee waived)

Fundraising Chicken Stew - September 16 Smoked Pork Loin – October 7 110 quarts being sold by FFA members for $7.00 Need help during the day on September 16 to cook Pick Up – 5-6PM near Appomattox Drug Store Proceeds help National FFA Convention Trip Smoked Pork Loin – October 7 30 loins being sold by FFA members for $25.00 Need help to cook morning of October 7 Pick up 5-6 near Appomattox Drug Store Proceeds help National FFA Convention trip

Council Elections Seven members of council 5 members elected at large by membership Current chapter presidents Advisors and Past President (Ex-Officio, Non-Voting) Council will elect officers annually: Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Member at Large 3 Year Term that goes from May 1 – April 30 Currently need 3 council seats filled.

2017 Annual Meeting It is the recommendation of the FFA advisors to consider hosting the annual meeting in the winter each year in conjunction with a fundraising meal, auction or entertainment. Current council would plan and organize meeting.
