2. Dove Real Beauty Sketches This was a campaign that really got to me. It was interesting as well as inspiring to see how the advertisers put together all the insecurities of a woman and portrayed it in the form of an encouraging video for women all across the globe. Dove says: Women are their own worst critic. Only 4% of the women around the world consider themselves beautiful. What Dove tried to do was to create a positive self-esteem and inspire women to look deep inside them and make them understand that no matter what you are truly beautiful. You are more beautiful than you think. A message which is to be taken to the heart. They conducted a social experiment where they hired and FBI trained artist to draw a woman who described herself and then again the same woman was described by someone else. This showed us no matter who are how we are, we always think of ourselves to be less confident and less attractive and all in all not beautiful. We see our scars as ugly marks whereas the world perceives it to be beautiful. It showed how important it is not just for us to feel beautiful from inside it is also important to show others that they are beautiful too.

Pros: A beautiful message encased in a beautiful video The message was delivered loud and clear It created an emotional bond with their audience Showed the true meaning of exploring out of the box idea Cons: It was only catered to woman (Too women centric) Did not describe anything about the product Not much of it led to the sale of the product

This is how I would have made it better if I was to execute it: The idea and the concept was bang on. But instead of just taking women as participants I would have taken men as well as young adults in the video, since even though men don’t show that they are insecure they are more insecure than women. We need to get that into light and remove the stereotypical image that only women are insecure about themselves. And even young adults since puberty is that age where everyone is so insecure that they draw into their shells. It’s good to encourage everyone without having any discrimination. Secondly we could have asked the participants to use the products and say how they feel after they use the product. Since beauty is skin deep and Dove just brings out your inner beauty outside. Subtle product placement could be done. A selfie contest would do great in this case following a #DoveBeautiful to showcase all the people who are bared skinned (without any makeup). Here the participants could describe what makes them beautiful and then there could be a product giveaway.
