I Samuel 13:13,14 Acts 13:22

SCRIPTURE “And Samuel said to Saul, ‘You have acted foolishly; you have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God which He commanded you; For now the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But the LORD HAS SOUGHT OUT FOR HIMSELF A MAN AFTER HIS OWN HEART.’” (I Samuel 13:13,14) “I have found David, the Son of Jesse, a MAN AFTER MY HEART who will do all my will.” (Acts 13:22)

A CONTRAST: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SAUL & DAVID Saul sought to please himself. David sought to please God! Saul saw himself as king. David saw God as king! Saul sought the approval of Israel. David sought the approval of God! Saul lived independent of God. David lived dependent on God! Saul demonstrated “no” heart for God. David demonstrated “a whole heart” for God!

WHO WAS DAVID? THE YOUNGEST SON OF JESSE! A SHEPHERD BOY A POET AND A SINGER A HARPIST AND MUSICIAN A SERVANT A KING A WARRIOR A SINNER A THEOLOGIAN AN AUTHOR

WHAT IS MEANT BY THE WORD “HEART” ? PHYSICAL HEART SPIRITUAL EMOTIONAL HEART DIRECTIONAL 60-100 PM 120/80 COLD HOT LUKE WARM HARD SOFT LOVE HATE HURT WOUNDED JOYFUL VALUES PRIORITIES INTENTIONS MOTIVES FOCUS “Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart.” (I Sam. 16:11)

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE A HEART AFTER GOD? IT MEANS TO HAVE YOUR LIFE – IN SYNC WITH GOD IN HARMONY WITH GOD IN AGREEMENT WITH GOD IN TOUCH WITH GOD IN TUNE WITH GOD IN PURSUIT OF GOD “When you said, ‘seek my face’, my heart said to you, ‘Thy face, O Lord, I shall seek.’” (Ps. 27:8)

A HEART FOR GOD PAUL AND RENEE SOUZA TESTIMONY BILL BREWER TESTIMONY

WHAT DID GOD SEE WHEN HE LOOKED UPON THE HEART OF DAVID? HE SAW SOMEONE WHO: LOVED GOD’S WORD PS. 119:47,48 HAD A THANKFUL HEART PS. 107:1 WAS TRULY REPENTANT PS. 51 HAD A STRONG FAITH PS. 23 HAD A THIRST FOR GOD PS. 42:1,2 “…A MAN AFTER MY HEART WHO WILL DO ALL MY WILL.” (Acts 13:22)

DAVID’S HEART AND GOD’S HEART! (A DEMONSTRATION) DAVID’S HEART “O Absalom, my son, Absalom. Would that I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!” (II Sam. 18:33) GOD’S HEART “But God demonstrated His love toward us in that while we were rebelling against Him, Christ died for (instead of/on behalf of) us.” (Rom. 5:8) (Absalom was in rebellion against David, his father, just as we were in rebellion against God. In grieving for Absalom, David demonstrated a heart like God’s heart, who grieved over us and actually did die in our place)

“I, Jesus… am the Offspring of David…. ” (Rev “I, Jesus… am the Offspring of David….” (Rev. 22:16) [THE LAST NAME MENTIONED IN THE BIBLE (APART FROM JESUS)]

QUESTIONS TO ASK OURSELVES (DURING COMMUNION) WHAT DOES GOD SEE WHEN HE LOOKS IN MY HEART TODAY? WHAT EVIDENCE DOES MY LIFE GIVE THAT I AM A PERSON AFTER GOD’S HEART? WHAT, IF ANY, CHANGES DO I NEED TO MAKE TO BE A PERSON AFTER GOD’S HEART?
