MATERIALS 10 mung bean seeds 10 barley seeds 4 plastic cups scissors Gallon Ziploc bags Potting soil Air pump Thermometer Barometer String Ruler 6 Petri dishes

Project Set-Up! All twenty seeds were soaked in water for 24 hours. We punched holes in the bottom of each plastic cup, using scissors Each cup was labeled according to the seeds it contained and the conditions it would be under We filled each cup with potting soil and planted five seeds in each. Two of the cups contained barley seeds and the other two contained mung bean seeds. All four cups were watered and placed in Petri dishes to catch water We placed one barley and one mung bean cup in a Ziploc bag along with a barometer. Air was pumped into the bag using an air pump. The bag was then sealed. All four cups were placed in front of a sunny window and a thermometer was placed between them.

Procedure Each day we monitored the plants for growth in the open environment and the closed environment. We measured and recorded temperature and growth. New air was pumped into the bag as needed.
