John A. Holmes High School School Improvement Plan 2010-11

SIP 2009-10 Learning Goals: 1. 75% of students tested, including sub- groups, will meet proficiency standards. 2. 60% of graduating class will take the SAT or ACT; 65% of graduating class will take the ASSET and place out of developmental courses. 3. The percentage of students in each graduating class successfully engaged in a college-level course will increase. 4. The number of students in each graduating class will be at least 85% of the number that entered 9th grade 4 years earlier.

SIP 2009-10 Organizational Goals: 1. The percentage of positive responses to questions regarding communication on the climate and community building survey will increase. 2. The percentage of positive responses to questions regarding involvement on the community building survey will increase. 3. The percentage of faculty/staff, parents, and students indicating that drug use, the selling of drugs at school, and gangs are serious problems will decrease. 4. The number of office referrals for skipping class/school will decrease.

Goal Analysis 09-10 Our EOC composite from 09-10 was 78.2%, but we did not meet our goal for all subgroups. The percentage of black students who passed EOCs in 09-10 was 63.6. The percentage of economically disadvantaged students who passed EOCs in 09-10 was 68.4. The percentage of students with disabilities who passed EOCs in 09-10 was 48.2.

Goal Analysis 09-10 We did not meet our goal regarding the SAT: Our average SAT score in Critical Reading and Math in 09-10 was 965, up from 934. Our average SAT score in Writing in 09-10 was 462, up from 440. We tested 55.3% of our seniors, up from 52%.

Goal Analysis 09-10 72% of our students placed out of developmental writing on the ASSET. 82% of our students placed out of developmental reading. 39% placed out of developmental math.

Goal Analysis 09-10 In 09-10, 69 AP tests were taken. This was down from 126 in 08-09. 58.4% of our graduates took at least one Early College course. This was up from 55% in 08-09. Our 4-year cohort graduation rate continued to rise in 09-10, to 76%.

Goal Analysis 09-10 We met our goal regarding communication. (increase in positive responses among parents and students) We did not meet our goal regarding involvement. We met our goal regarding gang issues. (decrease in indicators that gangs are serious problems among staff and students) We did not meet our goal regarding drug use or drug selling.

Goal Analysis 09-10 We met our goal regarding students skipping class. The number of office referrals decreased from 445 in 08-09 to 105 in 09-10.

Student Learning Goals 10-11 77% of all students tested, as well as all subgroups, will meet or exceed the proficiency standard of each state test. The overall average score of students taking the SAT will meet or exceed the state average; the overall average score of students taking the ACT will meet or exceed the state average.

Student Learning Goals 10-11 The percentage of our students who score a 3 or higher on AP exams will meet or exceed the state average. The number of students in each graduating class will be at least 85% of the number that entered 9th grade four years earlier.
