Langston Hughes A poet, novelist, fiction writer, and playwright, Langston Hughes is known for his insightful, colorful portrayals of black life in America from the twenties through the sixties and was important in shaping the artistic contributions of the Harlem Renaissance.

What is the poem “dreams” about? The poem "Dreams" by Langston Hughes is about the importance of dreams and their ability to strengthen our lives. In the poem, Hughes instructs the reader to "hold fast to dreams" because life without dreams is like a "broken winged bird that cannot fly.
