A word about the Essay Be interesting but be yourself Be concise Edit and revise. Then edit again. Have a teacher read it Show, Don’t’ Tell Evaluated on three parts – Ability to use English correctly Content, substance and depth of insight Creativity

A word about Standardized Tests SAT All Juniors took last spring at ConVal Retest? SAT Test dates in October, November, December ACT Test dates in November, December Score Choice Sending Scores through Testing Agency ONLY ConVal does NOT send SAT or ACT scores

A Word about letters of rec Consider who you want to ask Look for a teacher who can address your abilities as a learner, not someone you got an easy “A” with Ask them in person Ask them well in advance Complete the Senior Profile Form on Naviance Request them on Naviance Send your recommenders a thank you note Only send the number of letters requested by the college Do not send letters from family members

Naviance and Common App All ConVal students will utilize Naviance for applications Must be linked to Common App account Non-Common App schools will also utilize Naviance Letters of Recommendation Transcripts Counselor School Forms All sent via edocs Parent account can monitor all activity
