Ready for the AP Test?

What are the different ways to graph data? What must you always include when making a histogram, boxplot, or scatterplot?

Describe the data: 4 4 3 1 9 9 9 9 8 7 6 6 5 5 2 1 0 0 1 2 3 4 1 6 9 9 9 0 0 1 2 4 4 4 5 7 8 0 0 1 6 7

Did you CUSS? Did you compare or just describe each one? Was your measure of center and spread resistant to outliers? How do you know if something is an outlier?

If you added a number to each set of data, what summary data would change? 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 55 60 65 70 What if you multiplied?

Label A, B, and C as the mean, median, and mode.

How do you use z-scores to compare two sets of data? Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) scores for young adults are N(110, 25). If someone’s score were reported as the 90th percentile, about what score would that individual have?

How do you describe scatterplots? What does ‘r’ tell you? What does ‘r2’ tell you? What do you need residual plots for?

What is the equation of the least squares regression line that describes the relationship between operating cost per hour and number of passenger seats in the plane? Define any variables used in this equation.

Which line is a better model, exponential or power?

What is the difference between an observation and experiment? What are the different types of experiments? Stratified Random Sample - observation and experiment? How do you chose an SRS? Is Systematic Random Sampling a SRS?

What are the 5 key elements in designing an experiment? What type of experiment is below? Group 1 No fert. Compare size and taste of carrots 24 carrots Random Allocation Group 2 16g fert. Group 3 32g fert.

What type of experiment is below? Dessert 20 women Random Assignment compare sleep patterns No Dessert Subjects Dessert 20 men Random Assignment compare sleep patterns No Dessert

What is a sample space? How do you check for independence? Independent vs. disjoint

Suppose a computer company has manufacturing plants in three states Suppose a computer company has manufacturing plants in three states. 50% of their computers are manufactured in California and 85% of these are desktops, 30% of computers are manufactured in Washington, and 40% of these are laptops, and 20% of computers are manufactured in Oregon, and 40% of these are desktops. All computers are first shipped to a distribution site in Nebraska before being sent out to stores. If you picked a computer at random from the Nebraska distribution center, what is the probability that it is a laptop?

0.15 laptop CA desktop 0.85 0.50 laptop 0.40 WA desktop 0.30 0.60 0.60 (.5.15) = 0.075 laptop CA desktop 0.85 (.5.85) = 0.425 0.50 laptop 0.40 (.3.4) = 0.12 State WA desktop 0.30 0.60 (.3.6) = 0.18 0.60 laptop (.2.6) = 0.12 OR desktop 0.40 (.2.4) = 0.08 0.20 P(laptop) = 0.075 + 0.12 + 0.12 = 0.315

Find the expected value and the standard deviation. X = net gain $4,999 $49 $4 -$1 Probability .000035 .00168 .0303 .242 .726

When subtracting two sets of data to form one, what happens to their standard deviations?

What is a binomial setting? How do you use your calculator for binomial? What is a geometric setting?

A biologist is studying a new hybrid tomato A biologist is studying a new hybrid tomato. It is known that the seeds of this hybrid tomato have probability .30 of germinating. The biologist plants 7 seeds. What is the probability that less than 3 seeds will germinate? Suppose the proportion of people who own a pet in Pleasant City is 0.87. If a person is chosen at random, what is the probability of choosing a pet owner on the 3rd try? Before the 3rd try? How many people would you expect to ask before finding a pet owner?

What is the difference between a parameter and a statistic? Describe the distribution for sample means. Describe the distribution for sample proportions.

How do you know if the sample distribution is normal? CLT vs. Rules of thumb What does a confidence interval mean? True or False: The interval will capture the true mean 95% of the time.

Z or T? How do you know you can use the t-distribution? Matched pairs vs. 2-sample T-interval Margin of error vs. Standard Error How do you know how many people to sample?

What is the formula for 1-prop Z-Interval? How do you find how many people to survey if no proportion is given? How do you know if the proportion dist. is normal?

  When do you reject the null? What is a type I error? II? Power of the test? Ho True Ho False Reject Ho Do not Reject Ho Type I Error  Power of the test p =  p = 1 –  Type II Error  p =  Note: You will never have to calculate 

How do you reduce a type II error?

Conditions for 2 Sample Proportion Test: SRS Normality Independence N  10(n1 + n2) The two samples are independent

What are the conditions of a chi-square distribution? Homogeneity vs. Independence Compare two or more populations on one categorical variable Two categorical variables collected from a single population
