TRCC SAFETY TOPIC Bill Hempel Density Altitude! This is a term normally relating to full-scale airplanes. Having a high DA will effect your model airplane too! Have you noticed this in your model this summer? What effect does a high DA have on your model?

TRCC SAFETY TOPIC Bill Hempel Less performance from your gas or electric motor! Your propeller is less efficient in hot weather and gas motors develop less hp. Increased takeoff and landing distance. Due to fewer air molecules per volume of air, you will need to fly faster to stay airborne. Reduced control effectiveness Less air molecules going over a control surface will reduce the effectiveness of your controls. It may take a lot more elevator to rotate or to properly flare during landing. Here is a video that helps explain what high DA can do to aircrafts performance:
