Classification IFs have been consulted by IPC about the need to have classification panels available under the provisions of the Rio 2016 Classification Guide, and the Rio 2016 OCOG has been requested to have operational procedures in place to handle any request that might be forthcoming through the IPC and IF. All athletes are Confirmed or Review-Post Rio so NPCs cannot launch any classification protests at the Games.

Warm up – Swim Before start of the 1st wave: You will be allowed to warm up on the swim course from the swim exit to the last yellow turning buoy. Coaches can go with the athletes to the swim exit. Before start of the 3rd wave: You will be allowed to warm up on the swim course from the swim start to the first orange turning buoy.

Pre-start procedure Athletes’ Introduction 40 minutes before your start, report at the athletes’ lounge Technical officials will line you up at the mount line according to your category and then race number You will be moved in front of the grandstands where you will be introduced. Each presented athlete should make his/her way to the mount line

Pre-start procedure Transition to the embarkation point Two choices: swim to the barge or be transferred to the barge by boat. Athletes will be collected at the mount line and moved to the embarkation point with golf carts. ALL EQUIPMENT FOR PRE-TRANSITION MUST BE LEFT HERE. Last minute gear must be left at the numbered boxes in that area.

Pre-start procedure Transition to the embarkation point No personal handlers or coaches are allowed to follow the athletes. PT5 and PT1 athletes will move from the athletes’ lounge to the embarkation point during the PT4/PT2 race.

Pre-start procedure Embarkation point to start pontoon LOC swim exit handlers will assist all of the athletes to move from the golf carts to the boats or to the sea. Athletes are allowed to swim to the start pontoon if they wish, but only through the designated swim lane. Toilets, tents and water are available on the start pontoon. Medical and swim exit handlers are located on the start pontoon as well.

The start can be given any time after the Starter announces “On your mark” Horn blasts The race starts

False start procedure False start with many athletes: Several air horn blasts Kayaks in front of you Everyone goes back to his or her original start spot Valid start but with early starters: If someone starts before the horn and every one else starts with the horn, the false starter will receive a time penalty of 10 seconds in T1. During the time penalty the athlete cannot touch any race equipment.

Swim course Yesterday at 12:00 - Water temperature: 22.8 °C - Air temperature: 27 °C - WBGT: 28 °C - Relative humidity: 73.8% 1 lap (total distance of 750m) Pass all of the orange buoys on your right shoulder and the yellow ones on the left. Red buoys can be passed from both sides. Go through the last gate (orange/ yellow buoys) Swim behaviour will be closely monitored and video taped. Take swim cap, goggles to transition in your area.

Swim course

PT5 swim conduct Each athlete must be tethered to their own guide during the swim. At no time may a guide lead or pace the competitor nor propel them forward by pulling or pushing. The guide must swim next to the athlete within a maximum separation distance of 1.5m from the athlete’s head to the guide’s head. The tether should be elastic rope with bright or reflective colour and up to 1m long measured with no tension. It can be fixed at any point of the athletes' body. Drawing not to scale Guide’s head can be at any point with the two red hemispheres next to the athlete, as shown above, if outside these areas, it will be considered as a violation.

Swim exit handling

Swim exit handling Swim exit handling only by the LOC Handlers. They will provide support to all athletes according to their swim caps colour. Swim exit handlers will wait the athletes in the water No Personal Handlers allowed to assist at Swim Exit.

Pre-transition Athletes’ registered equipment (prosthesis, crutches, day chairs). The equipment will be placed in advance at a chair according to the race number (10 chairs) Folding chairs for wetsuit removal. Athletes from PT5 are not allowed to use the pre-transition area. Only PT1 Handlers are allowed in this area. PT1 athletes must transfer, in a daily wheelchair, from pre- transition to transition. No wetsuit removal by TOs and volunteers.

Pre-transition to Transition White Lines are drawn on the ground at the point where the ramp starts and ends. PT1 Handlers may push athletes from start of the ramp up to the deck.

Transition Area PT1 shall stop completely at mount and dismount lines. Helmet MUST be fastened before unracking bike. Personal Handlers moving to the wheel station or aid station should inform the TOs that they are going there – (don’t walk on the FOP/ follow the path). PT1 athletes must put the bib at the back of the hand cycle and race w/c. PT5 B1 must put on the black out glasses immediately after arriving at the assigned space inside T1. First biker – last swimmer scenario.

Bike course 4 laps of 5.57km . Flat with four U-turns each lap. Draft illegal race. Always ride on the right, pass on the left. Warn the athlete you want to pass. 2 Bike penalty boxes (locations - see map). 4 Littering zones (same as on the run course). Electronic lap control, but you are responsible to count for yourself!

Run penalty box Penalty box is for infringements in: TA1, TA2 and Run e.g.: mount before mount line, dismount after dismount line, equipment outside your area, rack the bike outside your area, guide leading the athlete etc. Location: Before entering the finish chute on right hand side Information: White board to show race numbers and electronic board (Athletes need to read the board) Procedure: 10 second time penalty served on any lap of the run. If you do not stop, it will result in a DSQ

Post race procedures -1 Photo-finish In case of a possible photo finish, the TOs will move behind the finish line in order not to block the photo finish camera with the tape.

Post race procedures -2 No congestion in the finish area: go to mixed zone/1st recovery area For Top 3: - TV/Flash Interviews - will be escorted to the Medal Ceremony preparation area For awards, dress “up” – official uniform will be transferred to the medal ceremony preparation area by Sport for the last wave. First two waves have time to return to Athletes’ Lounge. No flags on the podium

Access passes for coaches Each delegation will get: - athletes’ lounge access wristbands according to the maximum number of same gender athletes per race. NPCs with maximum 2 athletes per gender will get two passes, NPCs with maximum 4 athletes per gender will get three passes and NPCs with maximum 6 athletes per gender will get 4 passes.

Access passes for coaches Each delegation will get: - 1 pass for each NPC for accessing coaches’ areas at the start and at the transition zone - 1 pass per NPC for transportation to coaches’ area 3 Your full cooperation is expected, otherwise passes will be removed.

Handler’s Notes Personal handers are specifically allowed to assist paratriathletes by: Helping with prosthetic devices/assistive devices Lifting the participants in and out of handcycles and wheelchairs Removing wetsuits or clothing Repairing flats, punctures and helping with other equipment All handlers shall be subjected to the ITU Competition Rules Any action taken by the Handler which propels the competitor forward may at the discretion of the Race Referee, be grounds for a time penalty or disqualification Personal handlers can only assist with their athlete.

Handler’s movements Personal handlers can move from the transition zone to the finish chute after approval from the Transition official and through the back of house path to access to Aid station 1 and wheel station 1. Coaches can assist the PT1 athletes at wheel station 2.

Important notes - 1 All DNF during the bike leg should go to the next Wheel Station, Aid Station, Medical Station or penalty box and remain there until the end of the competition. All DNF athletes have to report back to the athletes’ lounge and inform the Registration Technical Official.

Important notes - 2 Water quality Spare day- Sep 12nd / contingency plan Athletes/ coaches who are moving from the village to their hotel in Copacabana, should not bring their luggage to the venue. Gold medallists from the men’s races are required to come to the venue during the women’s races.
