Personalized Pathway Requirement (PPR) PPR’s allow flexibility for students PPR’s may be any course that aligns with the student’s career path High School and Beyond Plan should reflect PPR’s To use PPR option students will complete a PPR request form Freshman are encouraged to fill schedule with required courses PPR’s are best used during junior and senior year Kim PPR allows some flexibility in course selection so students may select courses in their career path PPR can be any course a student chooses that fits within their career path Freshman are encouraged to fill schedule with their required courses

Advanced Placement (AP) Opportunity to take college level classes in high school (starting in 10th grade). AP Courses: World History, Psychology, US History, US Government & Politics, Language & Composition, Literature & Composition, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Calculus, Computer Principles AP students will take an AP test in May Interested students must read and sign the AP contract by March1st or will be taken out of the course. Pierce County Skills Center Technical programs to earn college and high school credit. Attend BHS 3 class periods and attend PCSC 3 class periods. BHS Course Selection Forms – check the PCSC line and choose BHS courses for next year. PCSC applications are on the skills center webpage. Will be accepted beginning March 1. Malissa Application

Two for One Requirements CTE courses may count for other requirements in addition to the CTE requirement. (But sill only count for .5-1.0 ct) EXAMPLES: Course Requirement 1 Requirement 2 JROTC CTE Physical Fitness Nutrition and Fitness Physical Fitness or Health Principles of Bio-Med Lab Science or Health Intro To Eng. Design Fine Art Malissa Explain how some CTE courses may be counted as a CTE requirement as well as a second requirement as outlined in the course catalog. Course may only count for two requirements. One of the requirements must be CTE. Some courses may also be counted as college credit for students who qualify. Check with the teacher. Dual Credit Earn college credit by taking CTE courses at BHS (9th – 12th grades). Free college credit!

Course Description Book Things to look at: Grade Level Pre-requisites Credit Area Courses are for entire school district. Use your BHS Course Offerings List (page 2 of your Course Selection Paper) for courses available to BHS students. Career Cruising Course Hand Book only has BHS courses offered. English Language Arts 10 (ENG 201/202) Grade Level: 10 Credit: English Language Arts 1.0 NCAA approved This year-long course emphasizes further development of reading, writing, speaking and listening, and use of language. Students will examine a variety of significant literary and informational texts and authors, and reading instruction will allow students to comprehend and analyze more complex texts independently and proficiently. Students will strengthen their ability to write clear claims, use valid reasoning and sufficient evidence in their writing, as well as write explanatory texts to examine complex ideas and concepts. Both collaboratively and individually, students will apply knowledge of language to understand how language functions in different contexts and to make effective choice for meaning and style. Students work toward meeting standard on the Common Core 9- 10 grade specific standards. Completion of this course is required for graduation. Advanced Placement Biology (SCI 461/462) Grade Level: 11, 12 Credit: Lab Science or Elective 1.0 NCAA Approved Prerequisite: Biology with a grade of “C” or teacher recommendation. This course is a rigorous, college level course and requires higher levels of thinking and workload. Completion of the Advanced Placement Exam is required. This is a one-year college prep and biology course. Study includes genetics, DNA, human anatomy and physiology, bacteriology, energetics, botany and ecology. Self-directed study will be required. Advisory (All students will take advisory for a pass/fail .125 credits per semester.) Students will begin a college and/or career training plan, in order to explore post-graduation educational options. Over the course of a students High School career, all students utilize Career Cruising to develop their High School and Beyond Plan which is required for graduation. Career Cruising engages student in self exploration to help them reach their full potential in school, career and life. Tori

Filling Out the Form Write in your course choices on the first page. Make sure to choose alternate courses. Refer to Page 2 for Courses offered YOU MUST HAVE A PARENT/GUARDIAN SIGNATURE ON YOUR FORM PRIOR TO TURNING IT IN!!!!! Counselors will choose courses for students who have not turned in completed forms. Lori Show students the alternate section at the bottom of the form. Students should choose 4 alternate classes if their first choices are not available or do not fit into their schedule. Some students may be placed into a math lab and out of an elective if they do not do well on their math tests or in their math class this school year. Students wishing to enroll in Biology or if they do not want to take Digitools, must complete the Plan of Study (last page of the packet).
