Pop art was developed in the late 1950's. It was developed primarily in the United States and Britain. In the US, it was linked to the wealth and prosperity of the post World War II era, and artists of the movement responded to the nation's consumer society. Pop art is full of vibrant eye catching colours and is often made up of every day objects made to look like cartoons. There are a number of different styles of work from Andy Warhol’s Campbell Soup can to comic strips Other designers for this style are Pop Art Andy Warhol was the most popular figure in the pop art movement that came up in the 1950s in the United States and Great Britain. He was born on August 6 1928 and he died in 1959 Among his most famous paintings were comic strips, images of Marylyn Monroe, Muhammad Ali, Coca Cola bottles and the electric chair. His probably best known painting was the famous Campbell soup can. Andy Warhol

Dej Stijl Piet Mondrian Piet Mondrian was an important member of the Dej Stijl design style He was born in Amersfoort in The Netherlands on March 7 1872 and he died on February 1 1944 He was a famous abstract painter and his most famous painting was his basic black lines and colour square picture. Showing a grid like form. Dej Stijl De Stijl, Dutch for "The Style", also known as neoplasticism, was a Dutch artistic movement. Dej Stijl was founded in 1917. In a narrower sense, the term De Stijl is used to refer to a body of work from 1917 to 1931 founded in the Netherlands The colours that are used in this style are mainly the three primary colours. The exciting thing about this style is that you can include a variation of different colours that work well together. The colours used are always solid block colours. As mentioned above, another name for Dej Stijl is neoplasticism.

Memphis Ettore Sottsass The Memphis design movement encapsulated post-modernist design in the 1980s, challenging perceptions of ‘good design’ through their gaudy ornamental and decorative products.  The Memphis design group produced many memorable pieces of colourful,  bright, and innovative furniture, lighting, and textiles, and even clocks. Other designers included Alessandro Mendini, Martine Bedin, Andrea Branzi, Aldo Cibic, Michele de Lucchi, Nathalie du Pasquier, Michael Graves. It began in Italy in 1981, and Ettore Sotsass was the main lead designer. The wadrobe is famous piece of work. Ettore Sottsass was the main designer in the Memphis designs style. He lived from 14 September 1917 – 31 December 2007 and was an Italian architect and designer of the late 20th century. His body of designs included furniture, jewellery, glass, lighting and office machine design. One of his most famous pieces of work is his typewriter, seen below.

BAUHAUS Walter Gropios Bauhaus, was a school in Germany that combined crafts and the fine arts, and was famous for the approach to design that it publicized and taught. It operated from 1919 to 1933. The Bauhaus school was founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar. In spite of its name, and the fact that its founder was an architect, the Bauhaus did not have an architecture department during the first years of its existence. Walter Gropios Walter Gropios was a German architect and founder of the Bauhaus School, who, along with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier and Oscar Niemeyer, is widely regarded as one of the pioneering masters of modern architecture. Gropius most famous work is his door handles, now considered an icon of 20th-century.
