Data Entry Status for 2016-17 WEST BENGAL MDM-WEST BENGAL

Automated Monitoring System Online Software www.mdm.wbsed.gov.in has been developed by the National Informatics Center (NIC) –WB Unit. Total number of schools – 83809. Total number of schools registered– 78009 as on 21.02.2017 . (With names of teachers, contact numbers & class wise enrolment) Data collected through SMS from school – 20626 (On test basis). Proposed date of launching – Within March, 2017.

Initiatives taken & Good practices State Fund of Rs. 93.66 Crore has been released for purchase of Plates and Glasses for the students under MDMS. 969 dining halls has been constructed for Rs. 29.72 crore from State exchequer in Jungle-Mahal and Sunderban areas and 1570 nos. have been constructed at different districts with the help of local contribution / MP LAD etc. Again in this year also Rs. 13.32 crores has been sanctioned by the State to construct 434 number of dining halls in distressed tea garden, Jungle-mahal and Sunderban areas. State Government has allowed Rs. 500/- as additional honorarium per month per Cook cum helper since October, 2013. Arrangement of Hand washing before and after meal has been made in each and every school. The system of tasting of cooked food by one teacher and one cook prior to distribution to the students in the school has already been strictly introduced and it is being properly complied with. contd…

Initiatives taken & Good practices (contd..) Social Audit is a programme monitored by the people and the Government jointly. Calcutta University has already been engaged for this purpose. Social Audit has been started in Purulia district and will also be conducted in Cooch Behar district. Engagement of DEOs at each block (341), Municipality (122), and Municipal Corporation Level (6) has been completed. Testing of food samples of 20 schools (63 samples) has been completed in Birbhum district. Kitchen gardens are being developed in schools where space is available. At present 1994 schools are having Kitchen gardens. Use of AGMARK packaged oil & iodized salt in preparation of Mid-Day-Meals are maintained. Cooked Mid-Day-Meal Programme, WEST BENGAL

ISSUES / PROPOSALS Introduction of MDM in class IX and X may be considered. Initial installation charges for LPG connection need to be considered by the MHRD, GOI. Repairing cost for kitchen sheds may be provided by the MHRD, GOI. Remuneration to the Cook-cum-helpers may be paid for 12 months instead of 10 months in a financial year. It is also proposed to enhance the remuneration @ Rs. 500/- per cook per month by the MHRD, GOI. Construction of a separate dining hall in each and every school may be considered for taking safe and hygienic Mid-day Meal by the students. To provide apron, headgear and gloves for the cooks – fund may be provided Transporting meals from cluster kitchens to the school premises is a problem – So fund may be provided. Rs. 5,000/- for kitchen devices is inadequate for schools with higher enrolment the amount may be enhanced accordingly. Kitchen sheds constructed with the ceiling of Rs. 60,000/- per unit cost do not have store room. Additional fund may be provided for the same.
